no idea about your first question, but i've tried to lock the fob in my car every way possible, and the car won't do it. even when i physically lock the car, leave the key in, and close the door, the lock pops back open.
i do have a friend who bought a 2008 2.5SL sedan when it came out, and it is possible for the key to be locked in his car, and trunk as well. (tested this myself.)
so ... the only thing i can think of is that nissan changed their firmware from when the ikey was first introduced to prevent the key from being locked inside the car. or maybe the door position switch / lock position switch on your car is broken.
for those of you that use the button on the door to lock the car, a buddy of mine mentioned that that does not arm the security system (i haven't confirmed this yet).JIBRIL4life wrote:I left my key in the cup holder today. Anyone ever get out and forget to turn off the car, lock the car and stop about 5 steps away from the car to turn it off cause you forgot it was on ???
A friend of mine (who drives a G35) has said the same thing. Haven't a clue if it's right or not. Still use the door button to lock my car.il duce wrote:for those of you that use the button on the door to lock the car, a buddy of mine mentioned that that does not arm the security system (i haven't confirmed this yet).
You are right about that. lol I would not have been happy if the car was running the whole time!! It may be something that is broken or just switched off, since my trunk doesn't allow it. That makes me feel better that most of you guys said your car will not lock w/ fob inside.il duce wrote:sucks that that happened, at least the car wasn't running tho! Take it from me, you'd have felt like a bigger a$$ if your car did actually lock w/ the key inside. **case-in-point** lolJIBRIL4life wrote:I left my key in the cup holder today. Went to lock it, i got the error beep. Wouldn't let me do it and I also felt like an a** opening the car to get my key.

Ohhhh...interesting! Makes sense. I'll have to keep that in mind!Curtieson wrote:You can lock your keys/purse in the trunk, you just need to do it in a certain order. My wife and I do it when we go and play VB/Softball.
You need to have a fob in your pocket (me) and the fob in the purse. Leave the car unlocked and throw the purse in the trunk and close the trunk, no issues. Then...walk over to the button on the door and hit it, or lock from the fob. As long as the car is still unlocked the trunk won't give you issues, once the trunk is closed, lock the car from the outside and there you go!
I'll let you know what the dealership says, but given that your car has almost locked but then opened you might have issues there too.Rob.Vegan wrote:I have locked my keys in the car twice since I've had the car. Uhh...did I get screwed cuz my car doesnt have a security system. Is this an optional accessory?il duce wrote:

and yes i have done that, but only on purpose
i'm pretty sure it's standard ... it's just the engine immobilizer / panic alarmjdeb101 wrote:

Yeah, it definitely says something along those lines...DroneBee wrote:I believe your owners manual says if the fob is more than 31 inches away from the start button then so sad to bad.
My altima did the same thing. I was out waxing the car today and I decided while the wax was drying, to try and find a place inside the car where I could put the keys and lock them in, but it was to no availDAAN. wrote:the altima and the g both beeped to let me know keys are in
Who locks their car manually these days anyway?808island wrote:it is possible to lock your keys in your car. before closing your door manually lock the car from the inside, the part where the handle is. after that close the door. the keys should be locked in your car. i do this all the time when i go surfing and just take a spare.
You...me...EVERYONE! Now...who locks there's remotely? A lot of people. You are still manually pushing the button, Automatic Locks is really a failed term.losenone wrote:
