Sean purchased the motor from JHOT, the thing is with them, the same way it is with alot of companies, if they can't start it there they won't warranty it. Like we've seend from the earlier posts, most of the front of the motor has been replaced. Problem was when Sean purchased the motor before it even came in, he pre-paid on the only set they had coming in, so it was coming in sight unseen so they had no idea about it. When it came in I talked to Alan over at JHOT and they said they will never pre-sale just because of times like this. I am sure they'll take care of it though, we've buy from them all of the time, so I think they will be able to help us out.

What most likely seemed to have happened was whe it was hit, it may have caused the crank to walk possibly. I'm going to get exhaust on it fully tommorrow so we can be 100% thats its a rod not in the valvetrain, but its very audible. More than likely its a rod though, motor won't stay running I am assume the knock sensor detects too much and is killing it.

The price on that motor must have been WAY low. Like around $1000 for anyone tobuy it with no warranty.

JHOT sounds like a crappy company if A) they don't buy froma source willing to backup what THEY sell and B) Won't stand behind their product regardless of history.

I don't think that "We never got a chance to start the motor" is a valid excuse for not covering it. If it was then EVERY supplier would say that about EVERY motor they sold.

What a load of crap!

JHOT's a great supplier, I know alot of people have bought from them and they always take care of you if something goes wrong, we'll call them today and see what they can do for Sean

Sounds a little sketchy also if YOU sourced the engine from JHOT and you won't stand behind and JHOT won't stand behind...maybe I question too much. Maybe I watch too much X-Files. Maybe I am sticking my nose where it don't belong and isn't wanted....who knows.

Hopefully he will get taken care of. My engine supplier got me an RB25 where the head blew up from no more than 30 mins of idling in my garage.....he took care of EVERYTHING except shipping the replacement motor, thats right a replacement motor for a bad head, from WA to NY.

THAT is good service.

Jon, We didn't source the motor, Sean had sourced it from JHOT several months before it even came in. I tried contacting them this morning about the issue, they were going to see what they could do about it, but from what Sean said since they couldn't start it in Japan, they wouldn't warranty it, but the thing is, I don't even think Sean or them knew that he was getting a unwarrantied motor, that wouldn't crank in Japan. For 1900 I would say they should warranty it, but thats why I stay out of the importing business, I just swap them and build them.

I think that for anything over $1000 they need to step up REGARDLESS if they could start the car or not. Alot of companies sell motors they never start and stand behind them. Its all about reputation and building a strong customer base. Ryan at RS Imports and I had a few arguements and heated words. In the end he took care of the problem(even though HE never started the motor) and I would never say a bad thing about him. He did the right thing and it meant alot to me as a customer and having faith in his company.

Kinda sucks for you guys having to do double work to fix the problem. I hate stupid things like that.

Double works no fun for something stupid. Since it had jumped timing, it could be a bent or broken valve. If thats the case, piston, and head could be thrashed.

Ok I spoke to Johnathan Today and he said the same thing since i bought the motor in Japan not knowing the satus of the warrenty that it was on me. if i wanted to dispute the motor price and warrenty i should have done it before it left the facilty of there in Augusta. I had not see the motor until it arrived in atl. Also I was more than welcome to buy another motor from them on Ebay.

Jarco can have my children....lol I bought my R33 clip from them will all the extra goodies and they're awesome. They contacted me with every update and when i went to pick it up they even gave me a few T-shirts and Jarco sutff. I don't think I'll buy from anyone else, unless forced to. Good luck with the second motor man!
