Old QBOAT got whacked by an 87 year old driving a NEON on the way home from work last week.

I'm told the repairs exceed the replacement value.

I'm not ready for a 2002 yet but there's some well priced 1999 and 2000s around.

Any words of wisdom?

Is the "T" worth going for? Besides suspension does the T give you anthing else in those model years 1999,2000?

What are the weaknesses for those years transmission?, fuel injections, air conditioning, etc.?

On a different track the black on black 93 was a marvel.. Just over a hundred thousand miles, engine and transmission were well looked after and smooth as silk, the leather actually looked brand new, the dash was perfect no fading cracks etc., BBS wheels, new Michelin Pilots (<5,000 miles) and so on.

What will the insurance company do with it. Is it worth trying to buy it to part it out?

Any help would be most welcome.

George (in mourning)

I'm really sorry to hear about your misfortune. It always hurts when a NICO Q goes down. I would consider buying it back from the insurance company, depending on how bad the wreck was. If you can still salvage interior parts, engine, maybe transmission, then it is worth it. Especially since the car was well-cared for, it'd be worth it to part it out or you can swap parts into another first-gen Q.

The 99-00 model Q's are great cars. They are bulletproof, meaning they have no major defects and run forever. I personally don't like them as compared to a first-gen Q. They are slower and less powerful (4.1L v. the 4.5L in earlier Q's). Plus, I'm not as big of a fan of the styling as I am on the 90-96's. Still a great car for the $$$ though.

Again, sorry to hear about the Q. Let us know what insurance says.

I am sorry to ehar that Qboat:

You may wanna cosndier fixing it anyway unless it a total wreck.even if you end up paying an extra 2 or 3k it might be worth it.

When I bought my totaled 91Q back ( newer engine, transmission) at 170k they charged me only $600 to buy it back.

I sold parts total for a 1.7 k since then and could have gotten more if I didnt give such deep NICO discounts.

It would have been a good deal if transporting it across several states hadnt been such an expensive hassle.

Fred...:)

Sorry to hear about the car. See how much the insurance company is willing to sell it back to you for and you'll know which direction to proceed. If you do decide to part it out, I would love to get my hands on the analog clock, climate control unit and the visors. Sorry to be a vulture, but just thought I'd be the first to ask.

A moment of silence for the Qdog! :( :(

Very sorry... If it is truely totalled, then youll be best to buy it back from the insurance company, and part it out... If you can get it fixed, more power to you.. The engine/transmission should make it worth it.. DO you have the guides done???

If the interior is good, then it would be worth a TON! Youll be able to scour a bunch of parts off there, especially the TCU. As soon as you let people know that its out there it will be like throwing a piece of meat to the scavengers!!!!

Buy it, Part it and they will come!! Man, I'm so sorry to hear the bad news. I'll buy your manuals right now! Seriously, people will buy your parts if you can get it back from insurance. People like me who just got a 93 and can't wait to be Q'd. By that, I mean working on it, running it, working on it some more until it's just the way we want.

Always sad when a Q enters it's "final rest" - Do the right thing (if feasible) and let the parts live on in other Q's.

Fred's Q is spread across 8 states... :)

True.. The body may be dead but the SPIRIT lives on.... :)

Plus, ive seen too many Q just salvaged for the engine/transmission, leaving that plush leather seats and vinyl covered dash left to rott.... Not to mention the 1000 worth of electrical gizmos...

I would dare say that if most of the body is still good and its in primo condition, you could make as much if not more parting it out than selling it in GOOD CONDITION. If thats the route you go, I call first dibs on the EGR-C solenoid and the undertray (if its still there).... :D :D

The scavenging has already begun!!! :)

I would try to save it.

If not, I'll take first dibs on the front calipers and mounting brackets and the MAF.

IF the car is really repairable. try to get the Insurance company to give you 80% of the retail value, and keep the car, with a clean title. (80% is typically the cut-off point).

You will have to get a shop to give you an estimate, for the repairs to match the 80% value.

Then, the car can be titled, and insured, in any state, if you decide to get it fixed.

Once the car has a salvage title, it is virtually worthless, as a whole.

Plus, you will have to pay some titling fees, where you wouldn't if the insurance company pays 80% for repairs. You just keep the car, in your name.

If the interior is a s good as you say, definitely try to have it repaired.

Try to post some pics of the car.

As far as a new one, I would go for a "t", or even an anniversary edition, for resale value.

Thanks Guys for all the advice.

I talked to the insurance agent last nite. He said the car would be written off.

I was hit in th passenger rear and driven into the curb on the passener front wheel which I'm told did in the suspension.

I'm to get their offer later this week.

He did mention something about if the frame was bent they would not be allowed to sell me the car! I'm in Toronto so I'm not sure if the regulations here are the same as most states.

Redmanfx The Q45 manuals including a 1994 technician's shop manual are yours no matter what happens. Send me your address and I'll mail them to you.

If I can't get the salvage I can always strip a few parts as I'm picking up my effects. Anyone have suggestions on stuff that can be disconnected easily and removed by car. Tell me how to disconnect without damage to the part.

Nice gesture, but the 1994 G50 is quite different from the 1993 G50 in system's detail.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

True, but ABS unit, AC components, LAn harness, BCU, TCU, ECU...vital stuff is different. It's those 15% differences that will render it useless for diagnosing those critical differences. Basics are the same.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Darn, haven't checked for owner's manuals for awhile.

For 1999 and Earlier Vehicles:

Service Manuals, Owner Manuals, and other service literature for 1999 and earlier vehicles may be purchased by calling 1-800-247-5321, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.

1996 should be very close except for the references to OBD II. Any Acrobat file is printable. There's always Ebay.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

That's great, now fight the insurance co for every dollar you can get for your old Q.

So what do you think of the new car compared to the '93?
