You'll want to watch the whole thing.

Summary: Actors simulated a situation where a waitress harassed gay parents. In Texas, several customers stepped in and confronted the waitress for being a rude, nosy bigot. The customers in New York City ignored it and allowed the harassment to go on.

Like the first person interviewed in NY stated, New Yorkers know to mind their own business...which goes hand in hand with avoiding phlegm in their food had this been a real situation. However, I really dont think this is an accurate judge of character of either demographic any way you look at it.

I've been everywhere. They're the worst.

I'm happy to see people still stand up against this sort of bigoted behavior. Way to go Texas! I think it might be fair to remind everyone that New York City is NOT the rest of the state, though.

This would constitute YOUR opinion. IMO, Bostinians are the worst. Granted Im not from NY, but I went to school there and dont live far off from Manhattan or upstate for that matter so Ive spent a decent amount of time in all parts of the state. Ive received more rude attitude in Hoboken, NJ on my way to the city than I have in actual NYC. Actually thinking about it further, Id go so far as to say most of NY > most of NJ.

Id like to see the full NY version of this experiment, curious as to what type of restaurant they visited. Looked like it might be a little upscale which would draw a totally different group of arrogant NY self centeredness that probably wouldnt be aware if the sky were falling, let alone someone else being harassed.

In any event, agreed good to see humans standing up for others.

I don't accept the video conclusions as a general rule. I think if you went to a differnt restaurant in NYC, and a different one in Texas, you'd just as easily have the opposite happen.

I can understand Jesda's negative view of NYC as he visited the city once via the worst possible way: by car. But for those that have visited NYC properly, and have spent some actual time checking it out, it's an amazing city. I enjoy going there regularly (but always by train, never by car).

the NYC place did look more upscale, still, i didnt need this video to confirm how much i hate NYC.

hate it.

i live in CT and have been to NYC via train and car enough to know i hate it. disgusting, rude, noisy, busy, pretentious, tunnel visioning arse clowns. i know there are exceptions, but in gerry's reality, NYC sucks donkey balls in general.

Well, you do live near enough to make a fair judgement for yourself. I guess we simply have a different view of the place.

Exactly what I was getting at. Id actually expect the opposite to happen as the norm. We have all seen Borat/Bruno movies? Not the best examples, but all I can think of right now. Guess I have schnitzel on the brain...

All my friends seem to faun over NYC like this great magical city of Oz that the impossible is there in everyday life. I'd rather hang in OBX.

I've been to NYC in every season and my conclusion is Its either bitterly cold and there is trash piled everywhere or its hot and smells like garbage and trash is piled everywhere.

NYC is best enjoyed with someone that knows the city well, and not on a shoe string budget. Yes, it's expensive, crowded, and fast paced, with potholed streets and aggressive drivers, but the shear volume of amazing stuff to see/do there is endless.

Im with Bubba...but I can also see everyone elses point of view. I got to know NYC well when I went to school there. For those that know the city, I would get off the Path train at 9th and walk 3 aves east to school. There is no cold like the cold that blows down that subway tunnel. You get hit yet again as soon as you hit the east/west streets. It is BONE CHILLING. Summer is the opposite, wait for a train and you are over easy by the time it arrives.

New Yorkers are the worst, I've spent time working there, delivering there, going to baseball games there and dealing with the new yorkers that cross their way into connecticut.

In Connecticut when a New Yorker moves to your neighborhood, that usually means you need to leave.

People from CT are no gems as well.

I hate NY. Boston's better, and D.C.'s the best city I've been to.

Granted, the "cities I've been to" list doesn't include much off the east coast.

F*** NYC.

The BIGGEST thing I hate about traveling is saying "I'm from New York." I can't say I'm from Buffalo, cause no one knows where that is, and if I say NY, meaning the state, they assume I mean NYC. And If I say "Buffalo, NY" they look at me like I"m some weirdo giving them my mailing address when all they were doing is making polite conversation.

Agreed.

Most of the times I've went, I left the car in Edgewater, NJ at a hotel and took the bus in. (I've also taken the train in from Carmel, NY..which is preferable). I've gone on the weekends in the summer and the atmosphere is different; I'm assuming during the work week in Manhattan it's nuts. Driving in Manhattan on the weekend isn't much different from Philly IMO. That being said, don't freakin' driving through NYC.
I don't like NYC for the people per se'; I like it for the sights, museums, architecture, Central Park, and for me it's a photographer's playground. It's also safer than Philly (which I still visit pretty often anyway because I have friends that live there).
I really feel as though the boroughs of northern NJ are worse and don't have anything cultural to offer to make you want to stick around.

Back to the video, I really like the guy in the black hat and how he handled the waitress; he was really calm and took her aside as to not have anything escalate. Awesome.

I think when many people say "NYC" they automatically think about Manhattan, and Manhattan is not all of NYC. Hell, it's not even my favorite part of the city... It's only great because you don't have to go far to fins something for anyone. Plus, some people just enjoy being useless tourist trash. Ya dig? It's fun if you don't think too much about the bums, piss smell and occasionally nasty people. We have all that in DC wherever you look too, and I don't think DC sucks. It's harder to get around around here tho.

DC doesnt claim to be the greatest thing since sliced bacon, so no one has a point of contention with its existence.

True. DC is a beautiful city, but like any metroplitan area there are places to stay away from.

If you accidentally stray into congress all sense of logic and responsibility will be stripped from your mind to be replaced with a sickening sense of elitist entitlement.

I agree, each major city has it's highlights and lowlights including NY. Washington DC is a great city as well, I love going down there. But there's definitely more to NYC than Manhattan, which makes it even more amazing if you include what the boroughs have to offer or even Long Island.

Dont buy into the hype that everyone in NYC is an elitist. It's far from it. It's a very diverse city. And Sky is right, the city takes on different personality on the weekends especially in the summers. And St. Patty's Day and New Years Eve? are downright wild there.
