My engine temp gauge is whacky. It twitches all the time. I hooked my new ODBII machine up to it that picks up live data, and it shows that the temperature of the engine is normal, which tells me that it likely isn't the sensor. Could it just be the gauge itself, or could it be something else?

I don't know how the J is but on some cars there is a sending unit for the ecu and a different one for the gauge. Could be that sending unit going out.

There is a simple trouble shooting process in the FSM for the water temp if you have a multi meter, you will have to take out the instrument cluster but check and clean the connector on the sensor first.

Go to my post here if you need the FSM zerothread/319964
