Well, it seems my temp gauge is officially, fubared. It is basically stuck in teh middle of its sweep and it wont move. I am a bit worried about this as I would like to know if teh car is overheating or not. But, fromt my understanding, it seems the stock temp gauge is rusbish.

Anbody has any ideas of what it could be and any advice on if I should just get an aftermarket one or try and fix this one??

Thanks

Knowing what car you have would be a big help.

I talked a bit about the thermistor for the temp gauge in second part of this thread. there is enough info to test thermistor (1991 240sx)to see if it is the problem.

I was right. I tested my instrument cluster temp sensor today and measured 4.5 ohms when engine was cold and 320 ohms when engine was right in the middle of gauge. I also hooked sensor directly to ground and needle went very high( off the scale). the sensor is just a thermistor. increase temp reduces resistence of thermistor and vice versa.
