Alright. I'm not interested in the scene or whatever and I don't put this stuff on par with any music where people actually play instruments and sing, it just isn't that impressive to me. It certainly takes a bit of artistic talent to make a beat and mix work, I get and respect that.

Like any genre, it seems to have split into 87 sub genres and I see people arguing about which is which; I'm not putting in the time to figure that silly crap out. I just want to find a few, groups? djs? whatever they are commonly called, that I dig. I figure we must have a few people who are really into this area of music and can save the old man the trouble of finding some top notch stuff to spin wrenches to.

I like stuff that pounds pretty fast and steady with no long intro. Some of this stuff takes like two minutes to really get going. I want something that pops early, like Nala on a date, knocks hard and loud like a KA connecting rod, and brings on the rush of a wastegate at full blast. Whatya got gents? :domo:

Techno branched off from disco. Nothing wrong with that though. I enjoy dubstep on occasion because it sounds like how being drunk feels, but typically to enjoy a piece of music I need song structure, harmony, melody, and, well, all the basic elements of music. I earned a management degree but spent my last year of college studying music theory and history.

A story helps too. Emotional content connects the listener to the piece, and techno is sometimes lacking in emotion.

You won't hear beautiful chords in techno (that aren't sampled from elsewhere), but there's some quality mixing out there. Like all artforms, someone has to do the experimentation, and the experiments that produce pleasing results help move everything else forward.

Its a trend. In the same way the jangly-sounding 90s were a response to the synthesizer-intensive 80s, this next decade of music will probably return to more organic instrumentation which is what I prefer. I admire complex layering and mixing, but I get more enjoyment from the skill, technique, and display of athleticism of someone plucking a string, blowing a horn, or hitting a real set of drums.

I went to a rave once. I felt like a black man at a Klan rally. I've never been so out of place in my entire life.

This is why I like Rob Dougan. It's a combination of real music with the bits of techno I actually like.

I'm right there with you on needing good structure. Music doesn't necessarily need to be "complex" to have good structure but, just like a road, if you do a crappy job putting it together, the ride isn't going to be particularly appealing to me. In fact there's a lot of "complex" music with lots of stuff going that just sounds like a giant aural mess to me (Metallica, for example).

I don't know if it qualifies as "techno" but I like Pendulum a lot. They have a lot of electronic sounds, but they incorporate a drummer and guitar riffs, etc into their music. Their recent albums even have a lead singer. Check out "Watercolour" from their most recent album.

I lump techno and industrial together, for whatever it's worth.

Moby
Utah Saints
Dirty Vegas
Daft Punk
Deadmau5
Orbital
Pop Will Eat Itself
Delerium
KMFDM

there are more, but whatever.

I prefer artists who create electronic music as opposed to DJs who just do mashups. The latter can produce enjoyable material, but my respect is always for the creator just a bit more. No offense to kornmanz. :)

Pendulum is drum&bass, if I'm not mistaken. I love them.

simple... mixes are what i find best

if you go to this site and look through the 'electro house' mixes.. those are generally the more fast paced... dubstep is also fast paced but its definitely not for everyone... stay away from the trance mixes... ALL the mixes on this page are free download... right click save as ;)

Just get the a few of Arguably best albums throughout history. Or find a style you like and get a bunch of mixes.

Some of my Faves are...

The Crystal Method - Vegas

Kosheen - Resist (not full on techno but I like the whole album)

Daft Punk - Discovery

Prodigy - Fat of Land ( hated by many )

Aphrodite - Aftershock

I love all Chemical Brother Albums Especially "exit planet dust" and "dig your own hole"

Underworld - A hundred days off

Then there are great artists that are in the electronic world like Breakbot, John Dahlback, Tiesto, The Disco Boys, James Ford, Pedro Winter, Peter Latino, and the list could go on for quite a while.

Daft Punk, the Prodigy, Basshunter, the Presets, Eiffel 65. LCD Soundsystem isn't "techno" but they have some songs that I guess you could consider electronic. If you want some something that pounds fast and steady (hehehe :naughty: :chuckle: ) one song in particular that I love is Sandstorm. I believe it's originally by Darude but there are many different mixes of that song.

Square pusher mixes and plays a bass guitar simultaneously.

There are artists that do completely original electronic works and make samples themselves. You can improvise electronic music just like any other instruments. Certain riffs make bands famous, example smoke on the water riff, like wise people like Booka Shade travel with their original samples and make insane improvised versions of their songs to use in live mixes.

I like this kind of style for driving around too or working on cars, minimal electro lets you focus on the task at hand,at least it helps me do that.

Both are Dirtyloud remixes of other peoples stuff.

Where did/do you spin at? I'm in LA and was a promoter for a while then evolved into a different side of entertainment. I did mostly concerts but threw a few parties and after hours gigs.
