Just wondering if there's a way to bypass a knock sensor. I have a 92 240 so if its not there it wont spark a check engine light. Basically I want to get rid of it but want the motor to perform properly with it retarding the timing. Is it possible, like can you just jump the wires or take it off or what? Any help would be great.

The way I see it, the knock sensor gets a steady 2.5 volts to operate. A piezoelectric sensor creates voltage as the crystal inside vibrates and moves against itself. So if I just ran a jumper wire at the plug and fooled the ecu into thinking is getting a steady voltage, wouldn't that work?

some people use a resistor. it would be a good idea to try to get one close to what the knock sensor has. it fools the ecm into thinking that knock sensor is hooked up.

You can either use a resistor to lie to the ECU, or you can isolate the knock sensor from the engines vibrations.

Why are you trying to mess with the knock sensor?

I got a bad one. Just figured it would be less of a pita to just unplug it. Anyone know the right resistance I should use?

Search a little, I dont remember off hand, but its on here. Remember, all mid 90s Nissans use the same KS, for they are all the same.

i could probably say you would be alright without the knock sensor if you ran 91 all the time. hell when i run 87 i dont get any knock and thats with the timing advanced 3 degrees. i think im going to do that.

as far as resistance, the knock should be 55,000 ohmsi think.
