I drove several iterations at the Nissan 360 event... Didn't think they were too bad from a performance standpoint (ok, compared to a Corolla or Sentra).

As a passenger, I'd much prefer an NV to a Crown Vic.

Minivans are certainly the best format for taxis, passenger-wise. Efficient FWD unibody layout; flat, open floors for versatile interior options; high roofs; sliding doors for easy egress; liftgates or rear doors rather than a trunk for easy luggage stowage; plenty of room for wheelchair mounting. They make tons of sense. I'm honestly surprised we haven't see Ford Transit Connect minivans all over the place by now. Tons of space in an efficient package.

The big drawback versus the Crown Vic specifically is durability and ease of maintenance, but you reach a point where that's not worth the cost of all those other points above.
