Hey Guys,

So I'm kind of a silent wonder around here, kind of like the creeper peaking into your window right now. = X
Any whom, I'm getting ready to spray my tail lights and my friend suggested I go for the GTR style; he added that I should attempt to spray over the reflector and give it a genuine GTR styling.

I guess I'm on the fence with this one (photoshop), so I figured I'd gather everyone's opinion. Thanks!

That looks pretty cool, I wouldn't paint it at first and see how you like it, you can always go back and paint the center part later. :bigthumb:

I do have another question while I'm on the topic of spraying: I know I have to sand down the tail lights before I manically spray everything down, but do I have to sand down what I plan on covering up? Or do I just sand around it?

Two reasons why I asked:
1. If I cover up the lights and then sand, my only fear is sanding the edge of the tape which would probably leave small fiber strands/dust? around the edges (but now that I think about it that's what wet sanding is probably for).

2. If I do have to sand everything, I just want to make sure the lights continue to be clean and not faded due to sanding.

Gesh... Doing my front emblem was so much easier than this. = X And thanks for the responds (so far) everyone, I appreciate it.

Wet sand the tail ights with 2000 grit sandpaper prior to painting, then wipe down with alcohol and make sure there are no finger prints or anything on the painting surface.

Or you can use adheasion promoter for plastics and not have to sand it at all. I did that and its been abot 6 months now and it still looks like I just did it. This way if you get a ticket or don't like it you can take it off like the overlays and ur chit will still be shinny.

I also think it would look pretty good, you should def do it, and if u dont like it you can always add the rest on. I've also been debating on how im going to do mine id love to see this one done.

It is a primer for plastics, chrome, shiney stuff you dont want to ruin by sanding. it works real well.

Thinking I might go with the promoter , but I'll ask anyway because I'm curious (and learning).

So the original process I was going to take was sand, spray on several layers of Nite-Shades, apply clear coat, sand down to orange peel and then apply compound and polish. I'm not going for the matte which is why I had picked the process, I want gloss but unless I have the process wrong I'm not sure at what steps I should take now.

I'm a scrub. ;____;

+1 You do not need to sand anything. This has come up in threads like 4 times this week. And dont use VHT if you want a glossy finish, use Rustoleum Tail Light Tint. I have posted a ton of pictures of mine in the past 2 days so Im being lazy and not posting them here. It will show you the Rusto tint and NO SANDING. No polishing for that matter either. Spray it on, let it dry, done.

Does Rustoleum make a plastic promoter or does anyone have a brand they recommend?

One drying coat, meaning I sprayed one session but layered a few times within that session to make it real even.

Yes and DO NOT SAND THEM you can always do this and take the paint off later. I used to have my lights done then removed the paint. Plus as stated above use rustoleum its better. Ive used both and i like Rustoleum better

Makes your Vinyl or Paint stick better bad idea for vinyl because any paint will lift when you use it.

So I just purchased the Rust-o-li-um (or however they spell it) and I'll be working on my tail lights tomorrow.

If anyone is interested in buying a can of VHT Niteshades and a can of clear coat (/coughs).

(Sorry, I've been drinking.)
