Hello again everyone!!

I finally got the Q back on the road this week and man I forgot how that VH45 felt. Everyone was beyond helpful! Repaired the entire brake and fuel system. :dblthumb:

Now that I got it back on the road it is time to fix/upgrade the rest of the car so I can have it for another 100K+ miles! :bigthumb:

My question:

I'm looking to upgrade the entire suspension system. Model: 1991...
I have been doing tedious research on here as well as looking at schematics and wanted to see about compatibility. From what I have found there is a $#!t ton of aftermarket performance parts for the Z32 and 300ZX. I was wondering if the suspension components for those two models bolt right on to the Q or should I stay away? I would put OEM back on the Q, but aftermarket are cheaper and easier to obtain. Has anyone tried anything? Any info would help. I'm looking to go lower (not VIP low but a little more aggresive).

Parts in question:
- Coilovers
- Upper control arms (front & rear)
- camber kits.
- etc...

Best,

Storm :woot:

You're in luck,

1st gen G50 is virtually identical to the Z32 suspension wise:

adj.tension rods
adj. upper, lower control arms
BC coilovers - recommended by another poster, get the 12/10, any stiffer than that and you may hate it.

Search here for the coilover posts, there are a few very good ones, old, but good.

If you do a search there is plenty of info.

-300zx coilovers will work but are much shorter than the Q45 set, so the car will be way too low. You would be better off with ksport coilovers that are designed for the Q45(90-93).
-All aftermarket suspension arms for the 300zx TT will work on the Q. So right now I'm running megan FUCAs, SPL RUCAS, ES lower control arm bushings, Z1 motorsports solid tension rod bushings and 300zx front lower ball joints with seats.
-Pretty much all of the bushings are the same as the 300zx, the only set that are different are active tension rods which have bigger bushings. Everything else is the same.
-Wheel bearings are the same, if you need a set for the rear http://www.240sxconversions.com/
-E-brake shoes are the same

Here's the old coilover thread - looks like 4 Z32 fronts, but as SanCarlos mentioned this will still put you pretty darn low.

Take this for what it's worth, but if you're running near the stock ride height (within 2" of stock), I'd probably skip the adjustable links. I had adjustable stuff in my Q for years, and overall for a car that probably won't see much track time (even if it does!) I don't think it's worth the hassle. Alignments are usually a pain, despite being able to change everything. You'll also require more frequent alignments since everything is threaded, it will tend to move. Eventually what happens is everything fuses together.

Since you can't get the tokico's anymore, you may be stuck with the coilovers for springs/dampers. For other stuff, if you want to run poly bushings, then go for it...

I have 2 other cars, one of which will see regular track time, and I don't intend on getting away from the stock suspension (maybe shocks when it's time for replacement). For what you gain it's not worth the hassle IMO.

Anti-seize is your friend :) I'm in a friendly climate area so its not a problem for me.

I'll probably end up with a set of ksport coilovers because of the lack of tokicos, plus I'll end up at the track at least twice a year. The only problem is it comes with 20kg front and 16kg rear which might be too much for the street. So far with 20k miles no change in alignment. I removed the eccentric bolt on the rear which helps.

I want your wheels brew, the next set I get will be 18" rgr's, not with that aggressive of an offset though. You should be set for R32 GTR or Z32 calipers though.

Yeah the offset is nuts - my car wouldn't move with Z32 coilovers, pretty sure the back tires would be glued to the fender

But, they are lightweight and I loves em! Maybe I need some Texas truck style fender flares, :rotfl Should fit 275's and a big hair dryer in the rear tho :gapteeth:

How low do the KSports start at? I wouldn't mind coilovers if I could find a set that wouldn't drop me much - maybe 1" in the front and 1.5" in the back?

Thanks again guys!!

I'll keep doing my research and start ordering this week. Any brands to stay away from? I see there is Tein, JDM, Godspeed, Megan, Stance and a bunch of other brands. Which ones are good?

Brew. That wheels are sick! Is that Chromium black? How wide are those?

I have a rear A model bar.

Also BBS RGR forged 18x9 NIB.

I will have to see if I can remove Tokico Blues off one car I am recycling.

I don't have access to my NIB SPL upper arms, but I should in a little bit.

If interested in any, email me please.
