gettin rims soon, debating on whether to get 17's or 18's. but i also want to lower the car 1"- 2" or somewhere in between. my question would be, (on a 93 s13 hatch) how far can i lower the car with 17 and 18 inch rims without rubbing the wheelwells on every bump???

thanks in advanceNick

^ pointless post, RHS13

This thread should be in the wheels and suspension forum, BUT:

as long as youre running the correct size tire, you should be able to lower it as much as youd be able to on stock wheels without danger of rubbing.

I'd suggest 17's as opposed to 18's in your case, and you should still be able to lower your car 2-3 inches without it rubbing ridiculously when you drive.

my 2 cents.

yea sorry bout the placement i was kind of in a hurry... idk if a mod can move it or something..

but yea im thinking im gonna go with 17's. unless the right pair of 18's comes along for the right price..

also, if i go with about 8 or 8.5 wide will i have any issues with the fronts hitting when i turn?

^ you should be fine up to 9 in the front, 10 or 11 in the back as long as you roll/pull your fenders to accomodate the width.

and RHS13, very sneaky of you.

just noticed A and B were links.. thanks rhs13.

but i dont think im gonna run a 10 or 11 on rear thats a little excessive than what i need. i was thinkin 8.5 front and 9-9.5 rear.

ive also hear that when i lower the susp. it messes with the camber. this true?

the size is really up to u. cuz generally people roll a little bigger tire on a 17 than they do on an 18 which makes no difference in rubbing. u just have to go with the correct width and offset.....i would go 18''....especially with a small drop like that...

and camber could be affected a little...but take that as it comes...nothing major..

from what i believe the rims are actually only 18x7, the tires 235/40 in the rear, 215/35 in the front but thats only cuz 40 wouldnt fit in the front b/c of interference w/ the spring but its stock so yea, but im pretty sure ill get away with it your right

imho... 18s are too big for an s13....

some people have pulled it off, but they didnt cheap out on wheels and suspension either, i think 17s look alot better

on the other note... ur almost going to have to pull your fenders for anything over 8 inches wide, lower offsets will make it flush, but w that wide of a wheel u would be ok with probably around +25

That brings me to an important simple question. I lowered my 240SX S13 Coupe 1.8 Inches all around. If I got rims the size of 225/40/18 would they rub or hit a fender during bumps? Besides a bumpier ride, what else should I consider?

you need to invest in some coilovers cause a 240 with 1-2" drop is still mad 4x4 with the coilovers you dont have to worry about blowing your shocks. Any drop more than 1.5 will most likely lead to a blown shock. with the coil overs you can adjust the drop to fit your wheels. 18s on an s13 without coilovers looks retarted.

18s are a bit much on a s13, decent on an s14 imo. I hope youre not worried about weight, rotating mass has way more effect on your car than body weight even if it is just a few extra pounds. Lower your car two inches and your gonna run out of rear camber adjustment, not cool with the price of 18" tires.

yea coilovers are on the list. im working on a pretty tight budget right now.. i want the adjustability of the coilovers as opposed to drop springs
