Man, time flies.

car was still running rich as of the end of May - then the project I've been working on at work blew up....I've worked every day 10-14hr days since 6/2, which has helped fill the project coffers a bit.

Have my friend helping look at the harness right now and found the culprit - my main harness was full of coolant....currently getting fixed, I'll go into the details once I post all the pics we've taken.

But the big news is I'll be down in Kentucky at LSFest next week to participate in their Engine Swap Challenge. 2 teams, 1 swap vehicle of unknown make, and a minty fresh LS - first team to fire their swap leaves with the Motor.

Super excited. Now I just need to find something to put it in...

There was a blurb about the contest on Motoiq, that led to this link:

https://www.holley.com/events/lsfest/engineswap/

sent an email, along with a follow-up and some pics. Less than a week to go, we have been brainstorming and racking our brains to come up with a good 2 man strategy...based on the parts list, the car the motor is going into is most likely and older GM truck, or a nova - theres a front sum oil pan in the parts list...not many gm cars use that. everything else on their list screams resto-mod.

- Crate motor 5.3 iron block, not sure what cam is in it...
- Holley's EFI system and harness - x-plane manifold with center mount TB, its def not something modern.

And all you have to do is get it running?

Sounds easy enough. I'd encourage you to do whatever is necessary simply to fire it up. f*** accessories and belts and fluids.
Drop it in, start it, shut it off.

Wish it was that simple...

need to use every bolt, tranny has to come out with the motor.

We have no advance knowledge of the swap canidate, only 1 hour of prep time...its going to be a thrash. I'm on dressing duty, need to get the accessories and the efi harness on the new motor, and it ready to drop in. My team mate is under the car, gettign the old one out. then we swap over, one doing wiring, one plumbing.

trying to be as prepared as possible - its a generic EFI, Holley's, "Terminator," so its really jsut a fancy TBI set up....getting the motor in and out is not what I'm worried about, its the fuel system...have no idea what we're up against. if its an older car, we need an inline pump, and new lines.

Starting to get amped up for it tho....

Battery powered impact gun is going to be your best friend for knocking out the accessories.

Even drills?
I'm assuming you'll have to punch some holes for new wiring.

They are being super evasive on the rules...

They provide the car - completely random, my money is on a older chevy/buick/olds
They provide the motor and ALL swap accessories - including all possible fuel system accessories. From their parts list, I could swap this motor into anything from a model A to a 240sx....smart money is still on an A body, or something like that, but who knows. The EFI and intake set up is for a center mount air cleaner, so I'm def thinking older muscle car. Its also a rear sump oil pan.

All we get to use is hand tools. I asked about wiring and the answer I got was that everything should be plug and play with the exception of the power and ground for the harness. Its a bay mount ECU, so once again....older car.

All signs point to a GM product.

We lost...by about 10 minutes.

we had the motor installed, and were connecting the harness when the other team won. Their winning time was 2hrs and 9 seconds...anyway you slice it thats fast.

https://www.holley.com/events/lsfest/re ... llenge2014

with all the go fast goodies the motor was worth ~$7500 retail, they let the losing team purchase it for less than half that cost.

we ended up taking the motor and treking the 1000miles back home with it stuffed in the back of the rental car. need to find something to put it in, or sell it and make our money back.

I've got some good pics, but cant post at work - ill try to load them later.

My KA-t is also finally fixed, should be out driving it and takign some pictures this weekend. :woot:

Damn, that's fast!

Tough to beat southern boys with anything small-block.
Reminds me of Bane.

The anouncer played the crowd with the whole "genuine Yankees, vs. the Southern Boys, routine..."

All in good fun, but the guys on the other team were just thrashing, they had the old 350 out of the car in about 24 min, we were a bit mor methodical, and it was paying off. We were slower taking it out, but we had more prep work done to get the trany mounted quicker along with the headers. We prolly could have won, but what killed us was the driverside motor mount.

We could not get the damn bolt in...prolly lost 30 minutes f*** around with those 2 bolts. In a garage, we would have knocked a bevel on the bolt...greesed it up and hammered it in, but with just hand tools we had to make due.

We each struggled in different areas - we had the mount problem, the hillbillies could not figure out the headers - had to lay them partially in and thread the motor/tranny past them, I also knew to install the o2 sensor ahead of time....little s*** like that kept killing them. I think they finally just used a sledge to, " modify," the headers to get them to fit.

Leason learned - we need ot bring lots of gatorade if we ever go back....and some beveled motor mount bolts.

mocked up flares for the car...need wider wheels, fronts are currently 245/55 16x8 et12 and they fit perfectly flush with the meaty tires. Ther rears are a whole other mess....same size, but with a 25mm spacer making them -13 and they I can still stuff another inch...need 50mm spacers.
