The SVX has a few design flaws also - namely the automatic transmission has a tendency to have short lives due to poor heat dissipation (IIRC they corrected it with a transmission cooler on the later models)

Also a bigger problem; bad wheel bearings, especially in the rear, it was a factory recall and to replace them was not a DIY task at all.

That being said, they are neat cars and I'm a Subbie fan...one with a 5-speed swap would be dandy.

I always thought SVX's were very attractive, even with the odd windows, but it'snot a car I'd ever want to own. IMHO Subie badly misjudged the American market with the SVX. It was an sexy sporty looking car when they came out, but it was a disappointment in the performance department. And since they only came with automatics, that pretty much kept away the enthusiasts. It's a shame. Interesting cars.

those windows are mighty dangerous too. they have an 'auto-up' function (i know bad plan) and when consumer reports did a test, they had a pic of the SVX window crushed a soup can. not a ally can, a tin can.-Enzo

I see them every once in awhile. I don't think they are ugly, just different. And I think that Dr.Q has a beautiful yellow SVX. In fact here is a link to the thread about it which contains a link to his car. http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....t=svx

FYI those windows were inspired by air-craft windows. You were supposed to be able to put them down and not effect the drag on the car.

When it came out, Road & Track or something, did a special edition that shipped with the regular mag that was about the SVX, as they did when the current gen Vette came out. They thought quite highly of it, lots of engineering went into that car, and though they may not be "fast" they feel powerful and torquey. I loved the suede trim inside, I'm pretty sure they used that Alcantara Suede before the late 90's trend to use it.

I drove by it again and either 3000gt's are smaller than I thought or my 240 is bigger than I thought b/c the svx didn't look big.

3000GT's are wide as fsck. And big. And heavy. And damage prone.

But don't bash it if you don't own one:pface

I don't need to own one... I have driven several and I've seen the same one sitting in my shop for nearly two months...

it's going on its third engine!!!! GO MITSU!!! Engine NOT built to handle boost very well!!!!!

I will give credit where it is due... for their size and weight they handle very well... and the VR-4 is pretty damn fast stock. The rest of them are SLOW PIGS though.

I see them around the dealer all the time being fixed for one reason or the other (SVX). The speedo goes to like 160mph for some reason...
