So as many of you, or few of you know, I have been a member on here for a while and used to have a build thread. I had a fully built KA24DET 93' hatch, and then I swapped it out for an LSX engine. Well I never finished the LSX engine because life got in the way, school, work, ya know, the usual BS. I started getting more interested in other things such as bikes...was only a matter of time since I work at a motorcycle shop.

I picked up this toy, 1997 YZF600R..rode around on it for a while and also had an 02' YZ426F for dirt fun and an 86' CR250R.

Image

And here are some pics of my KA24DET for old times sake...

Image
Image

Well, wouldn't you know it, I ended up trading my 1997 YZF600R for another S13. That's right, a haggard, beat, drifted S13. The motor sucks, the exhaust is rigged, the driver 1/4 glass is broken with lexan riveted in, there are random rivets throughout the whole car, the wiring is f***, the quick release is welded to the steering column, etc…What can i say? I like a good project…ha ha. BUT it does only have 68,000 original miles - even though it looks to have about 1,000,000...

Image

You can see my old shell in the driveway there....(parts car now..)

So I began tearing into my new project. I keep finding things that are bad about this car, can’t seem to find much good haha. There is no ignition, it’s dangling under the dash, and the car is wired to push button start…drives me insane. The ebrake is custom “drift” welded, it has NO heater or AC, etc.

Here is right before I started tearing it down to fix the wiring issue this car has. I will be swapping in my whole chassis harness from my old S13. I’m not even gonna f*** with this rats nest.

Here is after I pulled the dash out. Notice the AWESOME welded quick release LOL

So I found some more time to work on my car. I had intended to change all the wiring out so that’s what I’m doing. I pulled the whole chassis harness out of my parts car, which is in perfect unmolested condition…sad that my old car is now a parts car…

HOLY f*** this thing is long.

Image
Image

Pulled out my steering column from my old car to, too replace the the piece of s*** that is in my new piece of s***.

Image

Removed ALL the wiring from my new project to replace it and put the heater and s*** back that it was missing…I can’t have a car without heat, that s*** doesn’t fly. Never remove a god damn heater on a street driven car.

Image
Image

And then I got harassed by the police, I had to move my cars into a different area or they would be impounded since they aren’t running vehicles. I thought this was s*** because they are both on “non-op” registration. Long story short, I tore down my fence to the backyard, built a cement workpad and won.

So the 7th was my 22nd birthday and my beautiful girlfriend took me out to eat..I love seafood!

Crab, lobster, shrimp, mashed potatoes, salad…yum. She also bought me this freaking awesome craftsman toolbox!

Image

Around this point I decided to tuck my fusebox engine bay harness because I know later down the road I’m going to want to do fender tubs.

My plan is to weld a piece of sheet metal to the glovebox frame and stick the fuseboxes in there…I don’t use my glovebox anyway.

Like so…cardboard template

Image
Image

Started shortening the wires between the fuseboxes…

Image

Done for now, I’ll finish the rest once it’s mounted in the car.

Need some help...did all my chassis harness wiring today...have a few left over plugs that I don't know what they are.

I think this may be a consult plug..?

Image
Image

This one is attached the part of the harness where the dash buttons are (sleepy eye light button and dimmers) What is it?

Image
Image
Image

And these two which are next to the climate control/radio...

Image
Image

I also bought a Z32 1/16th" BMC since I plan on going 5 lug + z32 brakes

Image

And some parts...steering rack bushings, new exhaust hanger bushings, DIF solid steering bushing, KA IACV gasket, oil pressure switch etc...

The 1st gray plug is the consult plug.
Dunno about the rest.

I regret not wirewheeling my steering column and painting it. I had to get the car back together before school though haha.

So I worked on the car a little bit on Wednesday, did a little wiring even though it was raining outside...then i noticed I was wiring my drivers headlight to the passenger side LOL. I'll fix that on Sunday.

Came home today from work and installed my DIF solid steering bushing. My rubber one had so much slop it was unreal!

Here's the old one.

Image

Here's my new DIF one installed. The zip ties are just there to hold the plastic bushings in place so I don't lose them. (since its not bolted to the other half yet.) I used loctite on the bolts even though it mentioned nothing of it...but I don't want this thing coming off while I'm driving lol.

There is no slop now. At all!

So I picked up a limited slip. I thought it was Z32 at first but the rear cover and lack of front diff bushings tells me it's not. Maybe it's a 180SX diff? The gearing is 49/12 which I believe is 4.08.

Anyway, it was really dirty...

Image
Image
Image

I drained the oil obviously, pulled off the rear cover, hot tanked it and glass beaded it, and cleaned out the inside of the diff...

Image
Image
Image

Afterwards.. Will be painted black

Image

Also, my key broke - which I need now since my car actually has an ignition switch instead of all that crazy switch panel-ness

Image

So I went to Osh and bought a 37R blank key..

Image

And being the cheap-o / DIYer that I am, I cut it myself with a small file...took about 30 mins lol! But it works perfectly.

I'm getting close to getting this thing fired up. It ran when I got it but the wiring was just so messed up I had to redo it all.

Honestly I'm nervous for the first start, after swapping out all the wiring throughout the car..it should be fine though!

Today I extended my wires to my driver headlight, headlight motor, etc. The zipties are temporary, it will be fastened with adel clamps, and the wiring will be loomed as well.

Image

Still got quite a bit to do though...you can see the new chassis harness in this pic and that it actually has a heater now!

Image

Started on the passenger side headlight wiring. All done for the most part, gotta run 2 grounds and that's finished.

Image

All that's left to cut/splice/extend/shorten is the EFI plugs, transmission harness plugs, fuse box plugs, battery cable, wiper motor, brake sensor, and wiper motor amplifier.

Nice dude!
Starts up really quick.
Wiring is such a pain in the a**. Those previous owners really did a number on that car.

Before putting on the dashboard again, you should go around and see if any of the plastic vents rattle where they're sort of riveted/melted on.
I think most of the rattles inside my dashboard are coming from those, I wish I checked those out before putting the dashboard in.

Thanks.
Yeah the previous owners really didn't care at all about the car, or they didn't know wtf they were doing.

Haha I'll check them to make sure they don't rattle, but it wouldn't bother me much if they did. I'm sure I'll get rattles anyway with solid motor mounts and solid subframe bushings :P

Got some Z32 brembo rotors for free from my friend...

Hope everybody is having a good Christmas!

I got a new camera so there will be no more phone pictures...

I got this S14 KA24DE for free from a friend for helping him swap an SR20 into his car. So this will definitely be going into my car! Motor needs a real good cleaning though, it's filthy!

Image

Has some kind of aftermarket clutch on it, cool

Image

Solid motor mounts too!

Image

Also I finished all my wiring except for my brake fluid sensor and wiper amplifier, so about 7 wires and I'm done! Just gotta mount the boxes now on this plate I made...

Image
Image

Look! No fuseboxes! Ugly bay though.

Girlfriend got me a 309 piece Craftsman toolset for Christmas! Freakin awesome! Thing has ratcheting wrenches, tons of 12 pt and 6 pt sockets, tiny little wrenches, screwdriver bits, allen sockets, allen keys, etc.

You can see I organized all the metric pieces and threw all the standard pieces in a pile lol...

Got off work today at 2 for New Years, so I went to the local junkyard and picked up some Z31 rear caliper brackets for only $6.97, since I wanna do the altima rear upgrade when I convert to 5 lug.

Image

Also got some sway bar endlinks

So today was a pretty nice day outside for the first time in a few days...

Image

I wanted to get some work done to my car since I'm going to Yosemite for New Years and won't be able to work on it. I got SO tired of doing wiring I just decided to start pulling the motor out.

Removing driveshaft..

Image

Found that one of the carrier bearing bolts was just cross threaded in there... :tisk: I removed it..threads are salvageable still..

Image

Pulled driveshaft out, drained transmission fluid...dunno if you can see but there are metal shavings in the oil. transmission had a grinding issue 1st into 2nd prior to pulling.

Image

Shifter out! Notice the semi-mangled sheet metal...how the hell do you do that!?

Image

transmission out and wrapped in plastic so it doesn't stink lol

Image

And here is the motor ready to be pulled. All I gotta do is hook the hoist up to it and yank it out of there. I left it in there for now though because my work space doesnt have enough room to pull it out without taking the car off the jackstands and moving it back and I didn't feel like doing that today.
