I have run out of ideas on how to mount a 225 40 18 on to my 18x9.5 +12 works. Previously I was running a 245 up front and a 265 in the rear. I would like to know what technic you guys use to mount streched tires on to rims. I seen a 215's mounted on a 10 in rim before. I know it can be done, but how.

I tried mounting them the regular way and I almost had an inch gap on the bottom side of the tire. We then tried the blowing it up method with ethanol, but that **** was scary. I have run out of ideas. These wheels are not track sluts they are only used for DD duties.

Here's an idea - Buy the right size tires.

Why anyone would want a 225 on a 9.5" rim is beyond me.

You are very right. I bought them out of straight inpulse thinking I could mount them with no problem. I liked the way my car looked with the 245 up front. I was just trying to get more clearence to lower the car and have a better turning radious. Goin with a 225 will solve that problem. Cant hurt for asking. I am too a little skeptical on how it will look or how rediculous the rim will look. I just want to mount them and see how it looks.

I'd honestly be concerned about the safety...

You had an awesmoe setup before, just take care of whatever's causing your interference problems - I've seen S14's dropped pretty damn low with a 245 / 265 combo.

Or, you can sell me your wheels.

This is the best proof that 225's are simply too narrow for a 9.5" wheel. If you cant physically get the tire to span the rim, imagine how unsafe driving on it could be.

Hannibal......

I have too agree with you on that. I'll probably go with a 235/255 combo to help with some clearance issues.

If anyone has any tips on how to mount the 225 I already have please add to this thread. I dont want to waste two brand new dunlops in garage ornaments.

Someone will buy them - that's a good size for a lot of Honda's running 18's....

That's a lot of wheel for a 225 to cover, but if you REALLY need to do it, get the back bead on, and the front bead on the rim. Fill the tire with starting fluid, and light it (be very careful!). The tire will explode onto the rim and will seat up. Then just fill it to pressure and it'll seat.

They also make an inflatable "inner tube" type thing that you can inflate and it will pull the tire onto the bead. I read about this but dont know more about it -- i'll find a link for you.

theres this strap you can buy, you may be able to use a ratchet strap, what you do is take the strap and run it down the center of the tire and compress it it will effectivly pull the center of the tire in pushing the beads out. well thats how we did it at the shop i used to work at we mounted all kinds of crazy stuff. but i would say im probably the only one on here to mount a 26" rim now thats fun

you might as well leave off the tires and drive on your wheels.

your going to trash them just the same.

I don't see how. I've seen 225s on a 9j, 245s on a 10j, and 225s on a 9.5J. I don't see how it;s gonna trash the rims. Just learn how to drive defensively. Kinda like driving a lowered car.

You'll only trash your rims with stretch if you:

1) Hit curbs2) Can't parallel park (see above)

My rims are already pretty rashed out. I dont plan on hitting any curbs any time soon. one tire had to be forced on with some starter fluid and the other went on a tire mounting machine. The starter fluid trick works, but it had me nervous as hell.

What size rims are you running? And what is the ride height of your tires (35/40)?I just ordered a set of 18x9.5 and 18x7.5.I am planning on getting a 235/35 in the front and 255/35 in the rear. However I may run the same setup you have cuz I like the way the tires look slim, yet meaty enough to handle a good sized pothole.

235 I think will be a bit too fat for a 7.5 inch wide rim. I got 225 for my 7.5 inch wide rims and I wish I had of gone a bit smaller.

It all depends on the height of the tires. My guess is U R running a 40 series. I've had the 225/40/18 tires on my last 2 cars, and I always thought they were still too fat. Therefore, I'm going with a 35 series tire all around with the new rims I am getting within a week.

What the f*ck is everyone's fasination with running overly stretched tires??

The reason you get wider wheels is to run wider tires for improved braking, cornering, and handleing. So lets get 10 wheels and run a tire intended for an 8 inch wheel.
