I think it time for me to do a little community service and help those debating over to go light on the flywheel.

After about 80,000 miles the main rear seal started to leak oil, which means dropping the transmission and removing the flywheel in order to replace the seal. So i decided to take advantage and do clutch and flywheel as well. I purchase the Fidanza flywheel on eBay to replace the stocker and Centerforce Dual Friction clutch w/ throwout bearing at NOPI to replace the ACT street clutch, which probably has several thousand miles of life left in it.

Now for the good stuff

The car:1996 Nissan 240sx se w/ 90,000 miles.

Engine mods:Injen CAIFlex-a-Lite e-fan Here is a side by side (stock vs. Fidanza) comparison video of the tachometer. I'll let the video do all the talking.

http://users.adelphia.net/~arq...a.wmv

And here are some pics of the old stock flywheel and ACT clutch. Let me know what you think the condition of the two.

The car is more fun to drive. I notice that i have to shift faster now because the rpms drop faster, which i don't mind (I have B&M short shifter). And also I have to add a little more throttle to get the car going from a stand still. I drive this car every day, a lot of time in HEAVY Los Angeles stop and go traffic with no problems. You will get use to the change. Well worth the investment.

lightweight flywheels and driveshafts can completely make a regular car feel like a race car. gets rid of all that lag for instant response

imo the first peformance mods a car should receive is: max summer tires, coilovers, sway bars, light flywheel, light driveshaft rather than the intake, header, exhaust bs...

The actual recording takes a few minutes each, but the editing part was a little longer, due to it was the first time I use Adobe Premier and I had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to play two videos at the same time (side by side) and in perfect sync.

I am not in any type of film school, but thinking about taking a photo class or something at my local collage.

Chromoly flywheels instigate intersection throttle blipping shenanigans.

I have a Fidenza flywheel and aluminum driveshaft, its saucy. I recommend it it to anyone who also wants saucyness.

Yeah no problem, just donate some funds in to my paypal account so I can get started

I was looking at the aluminum driveshaft and they weigh 11lbs but costs over $400.Stock driveshaft weighs about 22lbs, that's about the same the stock flywheel weighs.

I like the slow mo video, really shows the difference over stock. I have a Fidanza flywheel in my other car and noticed a big difference. Makes it easier to rev match downshifts

I am curious why you replaced the ACT with centerforce...have you noticed any difference between the two clutches? I always thought ACT to be far superior to centerforce.

About 3.5 years ago when my ACT clutch was new it would engage when the pedal is towards the middle. After several thousand miles the clutch started to engage at random spots throughout the pedal travel mostly between from middle to top. So I changed the rubber clutch hose with those steal breaded one and I did the clutch line mod where you bend the hard line directly to the hose and I flush/bleed the system (no air). This helped with the random engagement, but it would engage when the pedal is almost all the way out. The clutch would still grab pretty hard (not like it was new though). So when it was time to fix that main seal I decided to change everything else as well. I didn't want to stick with one brand. I wanted to see what else was out there, so i decided to try Centerforce. After the installation of the Centerforce and Fidanza I notice right away that now it engages when the pedal is towards the middle of the pedal travel, just like when the ACT clutch was new. And it is easier to push. This clutch (centerforce) grabs hard, makes no noise, and no problems YET.Cant really say which is better, i probably need more time with this clutch to tell for sure.

you wanted to know about the condition.

your clutch disc was def contaminated by the main seal. can see all the spots on the pp and flywheel.

also, looks like your throwout bearing was on its way out, or you ride the clutch.

Nice comparison video.

You were pretty hard on the previous clutch because there is copper melted into the flywheel.

No riding on the clutch here, but i was vary hard on it. It also didn't help that me and a friend with a SE-R SPEC-V came out of work at the same time at night and used the same street to get home Now I am much less aggressive compared to a year and a half ago.

I did try adjusting the clutch pedal at the time but all that did change the pedal free play not much the engagement point.

You adjust the rod end, moving it more towards the rear will make clutch engage sooner. Then adjust the pedal height stop to get the correct freeplay. I just did it 2 days ago to fix my clutch slip problem.
