15.5 is above average, but not the "best" by far...

Anyone who knows about cars knows that there are differences in a mass-produced car and a mass-produced engine. Who cares what power the car makes on paper, it is wheel horsepower that moves the car. I have seen bone stock DOHC put down anywhere from 115RWHP to 137RWHP, and with 137RWHP it is very much possible to run 15.5.

The best I have ever seen was a guy by the name of Don Brasco, who was on the original 240SX mailing list back in 1997 or so. He ran a 15.1 and put his timeslip up for all to admire... but too bad that was before the days of forums and personal websites.

Do remember that there are "monday" cars and there are "wednesday" cars. (think of the workweek and think of the workers that assemble cars).

FYI a bone stock S14 runs about 16.1 or 15.9 according to most auto magazines... and a DOHC S13 has a torque curve that is slightly smaller (a few % in overall area) but a chassis that is lighter by about 50-75lbs. So the two cars run about the same at the track, 15.9-16.1 for a production spec car. Individual results may vary.

I'm all about power to the ground, not at the fly.

Tis why my TA is going on the dyno next week, people say that thing runs alot stronger than other TAs they've raced. Got a few bets goin as to what shes going to put down haha

For shiats n giggles, I'd like to try my s13 at the track. she has about 100k miles and was never driven hard at all. Just the body is falling off it from rust.

I was about to mention that guy, but I couldn't remember his name. Yeah, it was either fall 97 or spring 98. That was rather amazing.

I don't believe what you said, I KNOW it's the truth. It is just that people think the 240SX is sooo slow they refuse to believe that it can be faster than 16 seconds doing a 1/4 mile run.

There are so many variables that affect your times... even the mere fact of running a tire that is better than the OE tire would make your times better. Testing done on a production car usually is done on a car that has not been broken in yet, so the times are a bit slow in straight testing.

But people never think outside of the box, hence the disbelief here...

He first said stock. So that means everything that came with the car right off the showroom floor. None of this different tire than oe or anything like that, yes I can slap on a set of drag radials on my TA and I can promise you my car will pull a way better time than what she would be in stock trim, with the stock tire.

Yes there are other variables, sea level, lessen psi in tires for better grip, temp at the track that day, the condition of the track, the driver themselves so on a so forth.

For the most part I believe him now, its just that for all my research long before this post I've never come across a listing for the stock s13 240sx being a sub 16 sec car in the 1/4. That was even with people posting some good times, and even some with a select few *basic* bolt ons.

So it came as a shock that he was able to pull this off and it looks like he had a few minor things to help him along.

I know all about cars running better after being broken in, heck the LS1 is a prime example of this.

Theres tons of factors that influence the time of a car, but when someone says, "hey i pulled this time in the 1/4 on a completely stock car!" That means to me the car isn't touched for any basic mods, but yet this person claims a 1/4 mile almost a full second than the norm. (which appears about .6 to .8 or so )

Can you see where I'm coming from? BUt now after I've read some more on here I guess theres a small select group of freak running cars that have claimed some crazy times. Props to them and props to the starter of this tread.

ONe of th factors I'm going to run into next week is the 3500 ft elevation of a track where I'm going to run my TA.

If he had his exhaust unbolted from behind his cat, that still isn't stock in a sense since the original condition of the car is altered. My exhaust on my TA is stock too BUT, I have an exhaust cut-out, which, like unbolting the pipe from behind the cat, allows me to dump my exhaust without going all the way back through the mufflers. Makes my car faster than stock. In fact theres claims of up to 8-12 rwhp from doing this mod, but you lose a very small amount of low end torque, something I'm not worried about in that car. :D

Its an age old argument I've heard many time 'ran this on my car thats stock other than a this intake and remnoved the muffler' ONce the car is altered different from factor...its not stock.

Just trying to show my side of it here, I need no more convincing since it seems some have claimed similar times.

peace. :)

OK your definition of stock is different from mine. Stock means there isnt one after market product on the car. Just cause the exhaust is unbolted doesnt mean its not stock, its not like i had a performance exhaust or anything. It came from "the factory" like that, I jus disconnected it. :)

You also had the bottom of you airbox removed for more air though right?

Either way to me its damn close to stock...but wasnt the stock set up for that run ;)

Props to you though, you gave me new incentive with my lil bomb :)

that 15.53 was made with no rear seats, but they weight hardly anything. Had the front bumper off which probably made it slower than it would have been otherwise
