Hey guys, got a rather unique question here(I think). I've just recently swap'd an s14 sr into my s13. I bought it from a wrecked car and it already had 555cc injectors, z32 MAF, and an s15 turbo. The problem is that the ECU was damaged in the wreck and it was tuned for said mods. I've just recently purchased a new ECU and was wondering how the car would run with the stock ECU. I plan on getting tuned again by JWT buy can't really afford the steep $600 price tag. Just want to know if I can drive the car safely till I can cough up the dough for the upgrade. Thanks for any help.

No, the car will run like ****. Just the Z32 MAF will put the car into limp mode probably and you wont even be able to drive it. The 555's will make you run hella rich and you'll just be dumping fuel out the exhaust pretty much lol. Save your money and get the ECU tune.

JWT is $600? I thought it was only $500.

Thanks for the info. I figured it would would run rich as ****, just wanted to make sure. As for the price of the JWT tune, this is the email straight from JWT:

"Hi John,We charge $595.00 plus shipping to upgrade your ECU if you have the correct type that we can upgrade. You could E-mail me an image of your ECU, ECU female connector and ECU part number label to confirm. We do not have core SR20DE-T ECUs so you would need to ship us your core to do the upgrade. We can program for the 555cc injectors (we would need to know what brand/company makes them) and the Z32 MAF sensor. This would support about 350hp potential measured at the flywheel."

I wish I would have saved up and got AEM EMS or PowerFC instead of spending money on my ECU tune.

why don't you just get a apexi safc instead of a ecu tune. I always see them for sale for like dirt cheap.

no you wont, people make this mistake all the time, they install this stuff and then wonder why the car runs like poop, if you fried your ECU it was due to a whole differant set of problems. putting injectors a maf and a bigger turbo on a car will not fry the ECU unless they are installed improperly.

hey, a about the apexi safc, i have a s13 redtop (stock injectors, stockMAF, stockturbo), everything, only relevant mod would be the front mount intercooler, and greddy intake

i dont want to have my car stalling when i get off the gas once i have my BOV open, right now i have a hose running back to the intake. feels kinda dumb to have a sr, and drive around carrying a front mount intercooler as if it was not connected to anything.

which engine management do you recommend for such, i could probably adjust to the price (hoping i save some for suspension)

thanks, this is the only current thread that someone with some expertise on safc is online

Doesn't Enthalpy do unlimited free retunes? Maybe you should go with Enthalpy next time.

Is the ****. ANy and Every KA-T guy will go to Enthalpy.

Enthalpy knows what theyre doing, they make more power than JWT(because theyre conservative) and seems to be a better service for the price and features of the service.

Tuning personally is NO place to skimp. It determines whether when you apex that corner and build into boost whether your Piston Dome is a Dome or a Funnel because you leaned out. Or whether your bearings and rods held together due to correct timing to keep detonation away.

If you dont want to have a thread saying "I blew up my motor..." Spend time and money on your TUNE.

I also do free retunes on the same setup and my ROMs are only $260 for stock boost and $310 for higher boost rescale. Something to consider. Im trying to bring down the price of ROM tunes while still ensuring high quality.
