Well this has been a long journey. The story so far. I put a japanese engine in and did the chain guides at the same time. It ran great for a while. Then started having missing problems. Replaced the fuel pump, filter, and had the injectors rebuilt. Got worse. Replaced the spark plugs no change. Took it to a local mechanic OMG! I wont do that again lol. Replaced the ecm at his insistance. Much worse! After I got it back and repaired all the problems he caused it still had a dead miss. I replaced the wiring harness for the injectors with a oem part.

Now it runs ok but still has a slight miss and is down on power. I am open to suggestions as to where to go from here.

Well... where do we start....

Any ECU codes/CEL? Sounds like everything your "MECHANIC" did, was counterproductive....

A lot of the info in your post is sketchy at best... some extra details would be helpful... What determines "injectors rebuilt" (scary thought IMO)

ECU didnt do jack squat.... If the car runs, the ECU isnt bad.... Hope you didnt pay much for that...

Yep surely a mistake to take it to the mechanic. He also broke the headlight switch, interior pieces and some connectors, well live and learn.

I guess I should step back and take a fresh look. The injectors were done by derschwerks and they said that they were tested. It really needed the fuel pump since it would not go over 3500 rpm before that was changed. There is not a check engine light on would there still be codes stored? How do I access them?

Hey Fridge..here is a link that will give you some details on finding and retrieving info on the ECU.zerothread/174481

The short answer is:The ECU is located on the RH kick panel and would be directly beside a passenger's right foot. It's cover is carpet, and has a 10MM bolt near the firewall.

OK, well if deatcheworks redid the injectors and they said they were cherry, i surely believe them....

so im inclined to think that injcetors arent an issue.. They would have picked it up if one didnt ohm right or didnt flow properly...

The codes may still be stored in the ECU, might as well find out....

Check your coil packs! Sounds like a bad coil to me especially with the dead miss and lost of power unless you had something go wrong on the chain guide replacement. This happens sometimes later down the road if U made a mistake and timing is off which causes a mis-fire and lost of power! Check it too make sure it's in time with timing light or consult.

In each of my injector failures, the corresponding spark plug was fouled to the extent that it the miss didn't clear up. I would try cleaning or replacing the plugs...

Well,The ecm did not pick up any codes. I changed the oil with castrol syntech and flushed it with gunk. I could not find the BG I guess the local auto parts does not carry it. Runs a little better now but is still not right.

The miss seems mostly at idle and clears up at higher rpm. I saw a post about coil packs maybe this could be the problem? I will test them this weekend and do a compression test.

Also the trans is whining something fierce Would changing the filter and putting some lucas transmission fix help out?

On a good note I pulled out the old bose stereo and put in a nice sony with all new speakers and a bass amp much better than the old popping and crackling and now I have a cd

Sucess I pulled the coil cover off of the pass side nad unpluged the coils one bey one with the engine running. The number 2 did not change a bit connected or not. Changed the coil and it purrs like a kitten. I also had to change the harness as the mechanic was in there and destroyed it Spare parts are wonderful things.

It still has a slight vibration on acceleration any ideas on that?

Also Lucus is wonderful stuff the transmission is almost quiet now, at least for a while...

1.) BG is carried by independent jobbers. Not a national retail item.

2.) Avoid Lucas at all costs or say goodbye to your transmission shortly.

Do change the filter when you do a mechanical ATF exchange.

BG is not sold to discount chain stores BECAUSE it is more concentrated and the average Azone/Abance/etc customer will not read and follow instructions precisely. This type customer is better off with 2-3 bottles of Techron.

Too much BG44k [more than 1 can in 20 gallons] will cause problems if the technican doesn't understand to replace the fuel filter frequently, it will dilute oil and break down some of the additives in oil................why the can says to change oil shortly after use.

Opps, so Lucas is bad? I have used it in some of my service trucks and it seems to work wonders. I have a astro van with 199,000 miles that was shifting funny put in the Lucas and it shifts fine now. Should I drain the fluid? I think the transmission is going to go anyway because of the whine.

If you would check the TSB list [J30 comes to mind] there is a detailed proceedure to attempt to fix the common whine when the radiator AT heat exchanger is semi plugged and the rear planetary has been starved on ATF.

Generally if you fix the problem in the first week or two the transmission can survive the starvation of lubricant.

Quick and dirty TEST would be to LOOP the flex ATF lines without the in rad heat exchanger .......................allow ATF to get to the planetary...............not getting circulation will also damage the TC quickly.
