I bought a shell car and put a engine in at and got everything going but I still cant get my power steering going. The engine nor car came with a PS pump so I bought one from a guy one here. The guy took it off of his KA when doing his SR swap. He has told me its a good pump and I'm pretty sure he is truthfull. But then you never know. Maybe it was going bad or something. Anyways, I've bleed it (car jacked up, lock to lock with engine off and on) but it did help. I dont think its the rack, but you never know. I dont have any leaks becuase I simply dont see any mess'.

This seem alot with what I have. zerothread?id=145909 "Unfortunatly I still have no power steering, ive tried bleeding the air for many many hours, it seems that the bubbles refuse to stop, when i run it for say 5 min the fluid becomes so airrated it looks like cream, and the p/s will only work for a few min before the fluid becomes airaited. I cant figure out why its doing this I looked for leaks throughout the system and there is no fluid escpaing it at all, with as much pressure that it is under i imagine it would leak if there was a hole or loose line..The rack worked prior putting on the new line, so i cant imagine that is the problem, but the pump i thought maybe burnt out when it was pressure locked, but i have tried a new pump as well with the same results...

Any ideas?

Thanks"

At the end of that thread NISTECH says this "This is gonna be messy but go to the rack and find the pressure line coming from the pump. lossen the line but dont take it off all the way. you are essentially going to bleed the p/s like you would your master cyl when it is installed. once you have it loose have someone rotate your wheel all the way to one side [car not running] before they get all the way to the stop close the line. make sure your resivor is full at all times. Go back under and crack the line again while they turn the wheel the other way again close it off before right before they get to the stop. You should see air pockets coming out if you truly have air in the system. It will cause sorta bursts of fluid when an air bubble purges. If you dont get any air bubbles when doing this its possible you pumps internal valving is shot."

I tried that tonight. I got bubbles out of the reservoir but not out of the rack (I didn't get fuild out of the rack I should say). So after doing this about 10-15 times we gave up becuase we didn't think it way helping. So I went out a drove it. At first it didn't feel any better. But then I drove it for about 3 minute then I stoped. It felt better, still not as good as it should be. But it did take all of me just to turn the wheel a stop. So I'm not sure if it did really help or not.

Earlier today I took the high pressure line from the PS pump off all the way and had my dad start the engine as I watched the line. A good flow came out like a graden hose but not high pressure (I think the pressure builds up in the rack right?). I could only run the engine for about 5 senonds before we would have to shut if off becuase of the fluid getting low. So I might not be a full pressure with in 5 seconds from start up. Anyways I know fluid is getting to the rack.

Btw the car is a 90 with a 92 engine. If anyone could help me that would be awesome. I dont know what to do next. Different pump?

hmm.. thats weird.

bleeding the pump didnt work? do you know if the pump wheel inside the pump is functional? you've checked for leaks and there are none.

power steering fluid is being poured in, car on, then steered until the fluid level goes down. then you know to refill it and repeat the process until you gain full function of the PS.

the only possible thought would be to open the pump and see if the gears are pumping fluid into the rack and assisting the steering.

other than that, best of luck to you bro.

Bleeding the pump for about 4 hours total didn't work.

I think the pump wheel is functioning but I do question how well it is functioning.

No leaks. I cant see anything on the ground nor anywhere near or around any of the power steering system.

The only thing that we did do and I dont think it would make a differance but when I put the engine in and did all that stuff I didn't know that I had to bleed the PS. So we just poured the ATX fluid in and then started the engine for a minute and watched the fluid level and refilled it as it needed more. I did find out til later that I need to bleed it. I drove it for about 20+ miles before I found out I need to bleed it. Again I dont think this would "hurt" or damage anything. But thats the only other thing I can think of.

The guy I bought the PS pump from has another one he said he can send me. I'm pretty sure I'll only have to pay shipping for it. So I think I'm going to give that a try and see what happens unless someone else has a better idea.

it still think it might be gears in the pump. it might be slightly defected and letting air in all the time.

well i guess u can get that other PS pump.
