My new 1990 240 hatch has a very aggressive wheel wobble at 55+ mph, as my parents told me from them driving it (haven't really been able to drive it). my dad was saying it could be the steering gear box, but me personally don't think it could be. I believe it could be one of these: steering bushings, could need alignment and some suspension part, and could be something else not sure though.

any ideas? just through some out there.

me personally would not like the steering wheel going back and forth at a hundred miles an hour going 75 on the freeway. that's just me though..

I'd start by looking for play in the suspension. As well as obvious signs of worn parts.

Never hurts to have the alignment done either.

vacuum lines can deff do that, check all your vacuum lines and also make sure ur tires are properly balanced and also maybe an alignment

Are you guys joking me!?! almost every vehicle w/ a tire imbalance will do that, old or new. go to some tire shop, get your front tires balanced and poof!... problem fixed.

also, yes... it is possible that the wheels are bent. when getting the wheels balanced, ask them to check if the wheel if a little off. hope this fixes your problem

Hey I had the same problem. The fist thing I did was buy new wheels, because I had 2 bent rims. I then bought new shock/strut's and lowering springs. This whole time it was my sway bar link on the drivers side. It was worn and getting very loose. So I just bought new ones, in the mean time I tightend up the loose sway bar link and the vibration went away. Might wanna check, just a thought.

start with the simple first a 60mph vibration is almost always a balance issue!! bent wheels will shake all the time. bad tires were belts have slipped will smooth out at highr speeds. ( ever ride dirt bike on railroad tracks faster you go smoother the ride) 60 mph is magic number for balance.

you may also want to check tie rod ends. mine did that, it did it at 35+ but both tie rod ends were annhilated. I still have the shake, not as bad though because I havent gotten an alignment or balance yet..

G'day

Just a suggestion. I once had a hatchback that the sterring wobbled it was a tyre with a bubble on the inside which i missed that caused the wobble. You may need a steering wheel alignment. I doubt its your steering rack!Cheers

It could be one of three things Seperated tire, unbalanced rim and maybe needs alignment......id go with one of the last two

mine wobbles at 45-50 mph and sometimes around 60-70

but i know it needs an alignment real bad.
