I'd definately try an wheel balance and alignment first. If your tires are at the end of their days then get some new ones :pface

I've been told that that could be the T/C rod bushing, could this be true?

Could be, but unlikely. Your number 1 and 2 culprit will be balance or the tires being out of round. Alignment almost never causes the steering wheel to shake.

Oh, damn! Mines does the exact same thing, but the steering wheel starts to vibrate around 55-60 mph. After that the vibrating sorta goes away but its still present! I've posted up at 240sxforums and mostly everybody said it could be the T/C brushings and alignment so I guess its just trial and error.... and afew shiny pennies!

yeah, my car is doing the exact same thing. I'm replacing the t/c bushings anyway so i will tell you all if this fixes the prob. once i put them in.

Also just wandering, for those of you whose car does shake at 55-60, does it also start to shake when you brake at a little lower speeds like 45-50.

My car does that. It used to shake from about 55-65 pretty bad and then i got the alignment fixed and it hardly does it anymore.

my steering wheel shakes when i go 75+, i'm going to say it's my wheels being out of balance (since i was doign some nice burnouts on my new tires, and i moved the rear ones to the front, and i noticed that the burnout didn't wear the tread down evenly) that's why i gotta get mine balanced. :p

hey, nismojasonmy 240 used shake violently when I brake from high speeds but I changed rotors and pads and that solved the brake vibration but I still have the vibrating of the steering wheel at 55-60 mph. I believe you rotors are warped. If you want to go the easy you could have your rotors resurfaced insted of buying new rotors and pads but its up to you.

Rotors will not cause the wheel to shake while you are not on the brakes.

I have done this for a living for a long time now. Go to a good shop and have them balance the tires. While they are doing it ask them if they can look and see if the tires are round or the rims are bent. This will solve 99% of everyones problems.

My cars been doing the same since I put on the new momo steering wheel. It went away until I put my summer tires on. I've got HICAS on my car so that adds another variable, but it seems like I've also got some toe-out going on in the rear at times. Strange

150% sure its wheel balance... I changed my tension rod bushings and it only made the car shake harder, but the Whiteline bushings havent crapped out on me like the two OEM bushing sets I went through in two weeks.

Front end alignment and wheel balence. Also check tires for balding edges this will pull on one side or the other causing this. My girlfriend had the same problem and that fixed it.

I agree with the balancing...balance your tires first. While the car's in the air, ask the tech to check out the tie rods and ball joints...also check out the bushings. Under severe circumstances would the alignment cause a shimmy in the wheel. Also before you head to the shop, visually check your tires for any bulges in the tread or sidewall. Run your hand across the tread the way the tire rolls down the road and then the other way. It should feel smooth and flat both ways. If not, that may be the start of your probs.

front end allignment is atleats partially responsible, my friend test drove a 97 eclipse that did the same thing, made the guy get it aligned, and now it drives fine

I'm experiencing the same steering wheel vibration on my 95 240. It happened with my old tires and its still happening with the tires that I just put on. The shop tested the alignment when they put on the new tires and they said its dead on. Wheels are properly balanced as well. I saw people posting about the "T/C" bushings... I had a look at the bushings and the passenger side ones look a bit weathered but they aren't squashed or out of round. One on the drivers side was a bit strange, it had a bit of goo on it but didn't appear worn or squashed. The goo was only on the bushing and nothing surrounding it.

Any ideas?

THanks.

you said goo

I just changed front pads and rotors. Now I have violent shake when lightly pressing brake pedal. New warped rotor?

take a look at the tie rod ends. If they are going bad and have some play in them, it will cause this. My car does it from time to time, my T/C bushings are new (poly) and my tires are brand new and have been road force balanced. I'm gonna check my tie rod ends and see if that's what's causing it on mine.

hahahaha this is very common in S13s. Mine does it and I would say 20% of those I have driven do it to. It's an easy fix though.

The drivers side tie rod is solid however the passenger side has a tiny bit of play in it. It barely moves. Would this still be a problem?

same problem here, took it to a shop and they replaced the strut rod assembly. after the alignment the gave me a printout and said they physically couldn't get everything back into specs, which is interesting. It still shakes a little, but not as much as before

I've got new tie rod ends, and poly. t/c rod bushings. I still think it's the tires :-)
