I have a question that will no doubt get some critisizm. I had my 94Q with active suspention looked at today by a shop here in Phoenix. The news was not good, the shop is telling me that the struts and shocks as well as the accumulaters will need to be replaced. According to them I have fluid leaks in these components and the total cost will be apprx $6,000. I spoke to Joe @ Infinitti of Scottsdale and according to him I can convert to a standard system for apprx $3,000. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to repair the Active? I would love to keep it but I cannot justify putting that much money in it to save it. Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated.

Regards

You must talk to Keith Bowers first, aka TexasOil

Also check out Keith's new site and do some reading. There's some good info there:

For the readers who aren't wrench-turners, could someone estimate the labor costs for replacing accumulators and actuators? Recharging all 9 accumulators only costs $1200 - what would the labor cost be?

I don't remember exactly how many hours it took to replace mine, but I think it was about 5 hours including a suspension fluid flush, bleeding the system and testing the car. I got mine done in an afternoon. A friend of mine did it for me and I helped. He never worked on an Q45 and we went with Keith's instructions.

Here is a picture of the accumulators that were taken off of my car:

Ok, even at $100/hr labor, that's only another $500 = $1700. As far as leaks, it's not an issue on the remanned accumulators, right? I know you're trying to find a seal for the actuators. So, maybe some cost for a rebuilt actuator or two?

Costs have been broken down here

Add the 500 for labor.

I am not sure if seals are available best bet is probably a used actuator thats doesnt leak. Texasoil has my old ones and they where pretty good

So, completely restoring an active is a ballpark figure with labor of $2000-$3000.

Correct

As long as you dont have any bad G sensors, multivalve units or an ECU. Depends on how badly the system was neglected, and how often the fluid was changed
