Ok im starting the swap this friday hopefully it will go smoothly. Just wanted to ask for any advice on somethings to avoid like any problems you guys ran into while doing the swap. All comments welcomed and if anyone wants to lend a hand feel free to email me ([email protected]), feel real free cause I can only pay in pizza, beverages, and a hand shake :). Hopefully the car will start and run all nice and stuff, well thats all I'll keep everyone up to date.

Thanks

good luck on the swap. I'm hoping to get the funds to be able to afford a motorset and intercooler by mid-summer.

crimping may work, but I would never do it for something as important as the engine.. hell I'd never do it just for audio, but then I don't want my sound cutting out on my or losing SQ from odd resistance at the crimp.

Each crimp is just one more thing to fail (so is a solder joint but the chances of a good solder joint failing are far smaller)

Forgot the link for the intercooler. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...25471

Thanks guys and I think I'll have someone else do the wiring if it gets to be to much of a hassle, I'll see how much Dee or some1 else local would charge to wire her up.

Thanks

Ok finally got started, couldnt get any time off work. I have everything pretty much unbolted and will remove the KA tomorrow. Just a couple of things, it's me and two of my friends doing this one is a honda guy the other is a nissan guy (both deal with fwd though) and we are pretty much just going by whatever info we can find online, so with that said i have a couple of questions or statements whichever.

1. I've read that you can have a/c and p/s if its on ur CA (correct?), by using the CA pumps and maybe a lil custom work on the lines. Now since my lines on my CA are cut could I just use the lines off the KA?

2. How difficult is it to pop off the shifter(KA and CA) , dont think its that hard but dont wanna brake anything, also how hard is it to take off the drive shaft?

3. I've read that it is much easier to put gear oil in the transmission through the shifter (while removed) should this be done while the transmission is mounted to the car?

4. FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING THAT IS GOOD AND NISSAN SOME1 WHO HAS DONE THIS INTO A 240 COME HELP US PLEASE.

Last wish of a little aggiated and anxious man, but all in all it seems to be going ok. I'll keep u ppl updated and IM some ppl on this board this week, I hope thats ok cause I am going IM you ppl like crazy regardless :). Well im off to wendys.

i have managed to get the shifter out using just 2 screwdrivers, but it was a pain. just buy some cheap snap ring plyers and use those.

you can fill thru the shifter hole, but it takes a while for it to go down, and yes, you should fill it after its installed. no chance of spilling it as you try to install the transmission.

I'll tackle this one. What year is the car? If its 89-90, get 91-94 DOHC main powersteering hose (the one with the banjo fitting on the end)

If the PS pump on the CA is still good and its NOT a hicas pump, go ahead and put the DOHC PS line on the car and bolt the other end to the pump. Now where both PS lines go into the rack, the other line has a spot to remove all of the metal lines (it acts like a PS cooler because it travels the lenght of the front subframe) and leaves about 3" tubing remaining at the rack. Get a DOHC resevoir and mount it where it would be on a DOHC car, near the drivers side shock tower. Run a little hose from the resevoir to the little tube sticking out on the rack below and the other hose to the end of the pump. I hope that makes sense because the following wont.

If you dont have access to DOHC line and you want to do it the ghetto way, BEND the big line with the banjo bolt from the passenger side to the drivers side. DONT bend the actual metal line. It has a rubber part on it that makes the bend over to the drivers side. Remove the other hose I talked about above that goes to the other fitting on the rack. Move you PS resevoir and zip tie it or drill some screws thru it to mount it on the drivers side strut tower. Run the other lines the same way.

If you have a hicas pump, remove the back half with the second fitting. Its about 5 bolts or so. Once the back half comes off, you will see little fins. Take out ALL the little fins and put the back half back on the PS pump. Put a solid bolt on the back fitting where the 2nd power steering line would go. Make sure its tight, use JB Weld to keep it from leaking.

Then use the SOHC or DOHC method of installation.

I wondered about the PS cause it was definately on the opposite side of my SOHC, and I keep hearing everyone going "Yeah SOHC is easy everything bolts up!" And I've been going, man, there's no way I'm making those lines reach...

Now I have more stuff to add to my shopping list :D

Also, is there an easy way to tell if a pump is still good? Other than making sure it turns smoothly (i.e. if it grinds when turning the pully obviously its fubar)

I feel your pain, but hell if they can put an RB in a 240 I'm sure you'll figure something out. good luck!

Well the motor should be going in tomorrow or saturday, but I'd just like to say that driveshaft was a ****** to get out, every bolt on ever mount was easy to loosen ( kinda scary really... :( ) but the drive shaft wouldnt move. Oh well just had to vent a lil. try to get some pics on the weekend. Good bye for now

Been working alot so havent really had a chance to work on the car but the motor is about to go in the car as soon as i get my water pump and pulley, but what I was wondering is since I dont plan on wiring the car myself would it be more convienent for the person doing the wiring if the motor wasnt installed yet? I ask because i figure a lot of you guys have done your wiring and prolly some for other ppl so you would know which was easier. I dont know who is gonna be doing it yet so I couldnt really ask them, I was thinking of asking Sean if he wouldnt mind taking a 4hr drive or so to wire it ($$$ for his services ofcourse) but I remeber reading he is going to Philly and Dee is a busy guy so really its whoever has any free time.

Thanks ppl,

Richard

You can get one for a RWD CA18ET S12 200SX, it will bolt up fine, and should be up to the task of mechanical fan usage. Or, run electrics (you should anyways!) and ditch the mechanical fan, in which case you should be ok regardless of FWD or RWD CA18ET or CA18DE..

The problem with FWD ones is that the newer revisions (ORIGINAL ones were identical and no problem) are usually missing a c-clip or such and something else I forget what, search the forums sometime in the past 3-4 months it was discussed in detail.. basicly the FWD wouldn't quite hold steady and instead vibrate badly if loaded with a fan.. and eventually that kills it.

The difference was in the pully's themselves. If you got a FWD water pump AND a FWD pully, everything would be fine, but if you use the FWD pump and the RWD pully, then it messes it up. Or if you just get the CA18ET pump, you don't have to worry about it at all.

Get a CA18ET pump and don't worry about the pully, as long as you still have the stock DET one. Parts stores should carry it, it'll be 83-88 Nissan 200SX with either CA18ET or CA20E.
