Ok I need some help here for the money what is the best setup to get wheather going stand alone or getting separate piggyback computers. I want something that will work well with a Z32 mafs and larger injectors but I dont want something that will be a pain in the *** to tune. If I am running more boost, injectors, and Z32 mafs wont i need to reprogram the ecu anyway? Also I am not exactly sure everything the stand alones control... can you control boost also? Another thing that I am looking for is something that will display everything rather than using gauges..ei boost, egt, oil pres/temp, water temp/pres, fuel pres.

Thank You

Welcome to the forum. I would not look for a standalone if you want ease of tuning. The stand alones are generally for more advanced tuners since they dont rely on your stock ECU for a guide as much, or at all.

If you really want easy tuning I would stay with the piggy back systems, or send your ECU in for modification everytime you do a mod.

For specifics I would use the search function at the top right corner of the page. It will no doubt help you more than any one of us can. Good luck.

Yes. But it's an "option". Ie. You buy the boost controller for Power FC.

The Power FC will also show you info like:

Engine RPMIgnition TimingVehicle SpeedAir Flow Voltage (Pressure Sensor Voltage)Injector Duty CycleBoostKnocking LevelBattery VoltageIntake Air TempWater Temp

If you have the sensors atleast. I don't think that it shows Intake Air Temp on Silvia S14 ?

For EGT etc you have to go for something else.

PowerFC D-Jetro... the only way to go :D

With that version of the PowerFC, it does monitor the intake air temp, I think it's actually required becuase one of the required parts you have to get for it is a mazda intake air temp sensor.

Look up SDS while your at it. I know its not the best but it is the easiest to use. Its by far the ugliest, but it gets what you need done. I displays real time data as well, all the stuff you need without the gauges. http://www.sdsefi.com/ its worth a look. You can modify every perameter with that ugly box, very easy, the graphs on the FC are tough to understand whats going on. Dont go piggy back, they can only get you so far. Good Luck.

Yea im kinda embarased to admit it, but that beast is going in my car, the shop over here has a 200sx runnin 10's on the system and its also used by pro draggers everywhere. Very easy, every perameter adjusts up or down and displays in real time. Jason, the guys thats instaling it had an SR runnin 10psi and it ran 12's, its all in the tuning. Im excited.

They also have a snowmobile turbocharged with 270 hp with this system. Killer. .

I am still undecided about engine managment too. I really like the idea of total control, leaning toward Haltech system. But i want to be able to switch between low and high boost on the fly...and how do standalones deal with turbo timing? you cant set it manualy when you get out of the car.. On top of all that i want NOS control and either water or alcy injection anyone have a suggestion?

what about the greddy E-manage and the E-01 EBC?

Strongly advise against dataloging, what a pain in the ***!! I know SDS isnt the pretiest, but its practicle, no bells and whistles, you can control nos with it, and water injection. I just got my system in today!! Do tons of reaserch before spending anything on a management system,, I spent 1500 for the entire thing. Coil packs, every sensor comes with the kit and replaces the ones on the engine, I can go to shucks and get things for my SR now! besides the oil filter. Seriously look into it of your looking at stand alone,

Also, a great way to keep the inside of your car stock. No gaudy gauges.

SR got cleaned, this in the $900 one from OSAKA.

For what it's worth, my mechanic puts Electromotive systems on the twin-turbo and NOS'd Lamborghini Diablo's. For boost control, he uses the Blitz Dual SBC. If that electrical setup can handle 1000+ boosted HP and 12 cylinders, you'll be good with it on your SR20DET.

Isn't the Power FC something you kind of want a dyno and a really knowledgeable tech around to really tune with? There are some really high HP SRs around with just an ECU retune and boost controller. An ECU Retune is only about $550 through Jim Wolf. Seems like that would be alot better for someone who doesn't want to toggle 25 piggyback or stand alone parameters in the driveway before driving to work on Monday after a weekend of serious racing.

I'm in the same boat right now.

I bought the SR20DET motor without ECU and such, as I wanted to go standalone.

For this reason, I can't use the Power FC, as the Power FC plugs into your factory wiring harness, and if you are like me, I didn't get the full harness so the Power FC is useless.

I am leaning towards Haltech. My shop guy, and everyone else around here use haltech so they are familiar with it.

They have 2 Talons in the 9's with the Haltech, it's an amazing system.

He tells me SDS is too basic, although, if your tunning yourself, maybe it's better. Haltech is just bar graphs using a Laptop, so no big deal.

which ever one you go with, the Power FC if you have the full harness, or the SDS, or the Haltech, I would VERY STRONGLY suggest you go to the dyno with a tuner to tune the car, then you test it on the streets to make sure the drivebility is good.

From talking to my Mech, we're going to use the Talon ignitor, with distributor(Or coil, whatever you want to call it) and go that route.

Cheapest I have found the haltech is 999$ US for the E6K which will work on the SR20DET, the E11 is nice, but I think it's 1500$.

Jay makes a good point, and that's to get your car dyno tuned by someone who knows what's up. Especially when you're upping the boost, you need to keep a CLOSE eye on A/F ratios and EGT.

when ever u tune it should be with a dyno cuz the butt dyno doesnt work alwell as a dynojet.

dyno time is just like 100-200 buck and its the best thing u can spend ur cash on to get hp then u get up into the 300+ area

OK i am seriously considering the Greddy e-01 boost controller. One of the reasons I am looking into this is because it has a built in boost gauge that monitors boost, and a screen which I like as opposition to a regular boost gauge set up. Right now I will run basic bolt ons. I heard Greddy e 01 also has e manage, what is that? I will also be upgrading my t25 to a big28 in a few months.

e-manage is greddy's piggyback fuel management system. The e-01 just allows you to control the parameters of the fuel map without a laptop. The e-manage goes for around $300 i believe. The e-01 is actually in the $500+ range.

The E manage seems to be a hell-of-a useful system. I havent decided if I will go standalone or not. but if not its E-01 and E-manage.

It's greddy's solution to the SAFC. Nothing too special. I believe it can be upgraded though to manage ignition... After it's all said and done, it would be smarter to get an EMS.

PS - As far as the gauges go, you are not going to be monitoring your standalone while you're driving around, so a standalone does not take the place of your gauges. I would at least have boost, egt, and oil temp/pressure or water temp.

Good luck either way.

Jesse. Ain't Oil temp often more usefull often?

Maybe not if your oil pump fails, but it seems more likly to get bad oil pressure because you run to high oil temp?

Even more if you run the standard oil cooler.

Well, you want an oil pressure gauge since when you're running the car hard, you can have oil lines blow and that kinda stuff, so you want to be able to see the oil pressure drop so you can shut off the car before you do more damage.

EGT is definetly needed, as well as the Boost gauge.

Water and oil temp would be my other 2 gauges.

In my car, I am putting EGT, oil pressure, A/F ratio, Boost and water temp.

I already have the A/F ratio gauge, most people say it's not needed when you have the EGT, but it's good to be able to cross reference with the EGT.

Like I said earlier, I'm getting Haltech, I was going to have my car done at the end of the month, but now since the SR20DET is not in the car yet, and it's sitting on the shop floor, I'm going to get it rebuilt! :D
