MrZabala and I just finished another swap. Its an Redtop into an S13 Coupe.

So the car cranks, attempts to catch and start up, and then keeps cranking. I verified spark, compression, and fuel. Compression is 158,160,160,158. Fuel is entering the chamber. Spark is on all four coils. We switched the ignitor, checked the wiring one by one and did voltage checks on the circuitry. All checked out.

I'm pretty sure its the CAS sensor. I don't want to believe it and I need affirmation to remove it. The reason being is because it combusts randomly.

Agree? Disagree?

Flooding? ECU codes? If the CAS hasnt been removed then I wouldnt mess with it.

checked the timing....and it was off by a lot. redid it and now it still chugs. the CAS was hella off. we replaced the CAS with a known working CAS. the CAS that came with the SR was making a clicking sound, causing the photo wheel to suddenly jerk (which may have caused the intermittent chugging).

anyway, the ambient temp is mostly in the cold. at rest, the battery has 12.0v. we are using a KA alternator in place of the SR alternator since it failed.

the SR starter was also tested, and from what i was told it was "good". when cranking, the battery voltage drops to 7.5v.

this is what i have to report for now. any more ideas would be cool.

**UPDATE**

The car starts up now. Timing is perfect and runs nicely. However, upon shutoff, it refuses to start UNLESS you switch the fuel lines each time.

I'm inclined to believe this is obviously related to fuel pressure. What else should be checked?

what do you mean by switch the fuel lines, could be cts, pulling the lines and releasing pressure may be defeating the extra fuel the ecu is trying to dump in for cold start

I checked this morning from fuel pump to fuel rail. I know which line is which now. This is how its hooked up prior to start up this morning:

Fuel pump-> fuel line-> fuel filter-> fuel line-> return line on fuel railOther line is:Fuel pressure regulator-> fuel line-> return hardline (next to the fuel pump).

Yesrerday night was the other way around were the fuel pump hooked up to the fuel filter and to the fpr. I had this setup running for about 10 minutes driving it around until I stopped because of a coolant leak. Than I tried it this morning and it just crank and try to turn over but fail. Ill be hooking it up correctly tomorrow and hopefully it will be fine over and over. Just waiting for the JB weld to cure on the throttle body.

Another problem that Im having with the car is the electronics other than the headlights, fuel pump, key ignition, ecu, and clock light on dash, does not work. I checked the brown and grey wire 3 times now (3rd time with JDM), I even switched the crappy lower harness the guy has with mine (mint) and still doesnt solve the problem. Ill have pictures tomorrow. There is 1 plug thats not hooked up on the lower harness. I believe it had a yellow wire with red strip and one other wire (forgot the color). Ill have to double check, but I dont see it hooking up to anythingl. What confuses me is that the fuel pump turns on but tail lights dont, gauge cluster, and cd player, even though fuel pump is part of the main harness. Thanks for the help so far everyone.

I need this out of my house soon. So any help is appreciated.

okay so heres an update on the car.

the fuel lines are now correctly routed after seeing they were mismatched. the car starts and runs, but sometimes will refuse to start at random.

it will die occasionally under idle and different load conditions. it will then refuse to start. we can only get it to start after relieving the fuel pressure. the pump is building complete pressure as well.

im inclined to believe a bad FPR is the culprit. are these symptoms a sign of a bad FPR? ideas?
