Well time for another little battle of coments... i was wondering what would be better... a SR20 or a CA18... i wanting to swap a motor into a 240 s13 but i would like to be differnt and have a CA18 instead of a SR20... unless there are some things that are wrong with the CA... i know that it's only a 1.8L but that doesn't really matter if i'm only going to run about 300 to 350hp... so any and all coments are highly apreciated :D

on the plus side the ca has an iron block so it should handle boost a lot better, I'm not sure how easy it'd be to get some of the parts on it though, but the old 200sx turbo did use a sohc version of the motor, so it might be possible you could get parts from those to use on the dohc version. if you wanted to make a silvia conversion, you could always use the year specific motor for your car. I'm sure someone's gonna give you better info on the subject though.

hell, I don't even own a nissan...at them moment!

bah! the SR AND the CA have the same kind of sleeves. Thats what matters in "handeling" detonation. And both have alluminum heads.

The SR block is alluminum so it will dissapate heat better. It's also 2 liters.

The CA however has a VASTLY superior valve train. You don't have to wonder every time you take it to 7,500 "I wonder if one of those rocker arms is about to come off"

Also the CA is an older engine and parts for it will become scarce before SR parts do.

Both engines are freakin' awsome tho and i chose the SR just because i wanted to be authentic. (my car is a '93)

Edit:: this is in NO way the difinitive end all answer and i don't mean it to be. Just a couple points. I didn't even talk about the CA's intake runners...

I don't know what that R means but it made me think of a "type R" ranger, which we all know the r stands for ranger. watch out kids, the Ranger Type Ranger is a fierce beast!

I want a 2jzgte

I like my SR a lot for what I'm using it for (daily beater and occasional track/drift toy). The CA was more of a highway racer motor.

The SR is the truck motor and a CA has a powerband more like a motorcycle. Which do you want?

Gotta have the wing dawg!...I like the CA it's cheaper and year specific. Domestic parts availibilty, and I hate the question so you got an sr20. sr20 is a great motor, but it just doesn't do it for me. Who knows I might just turbo the ka. I'm a very indecisive person.

I though the CA could still use the 91+ steering rack, speedo, etc...

CA actually STILL needs the 91 + p/s lines and tach... so its just as *hard* as an SR into an 89-90...

wow... good info guys... thanks... i think i'm leaning towards the CA just cause of the vaulve train and reving capabilitys... is it true that the CA will be better on the freeway... that would be a major bonus...

there is just something about that red valve cover though...hmmmmm :) so hot. the sr has a better flowing turbo too, and can go to a higher psi, and its more reliable. ive heard a lot of dead ca stories...

A turbo can be replaced(upgraded) any engine that is 14 years old with no rebuild should be rebuilt IMO. I don't see why the sr should be able to hold any more booste than the ca.
