I have been working on my swap for 4 months now and the problem is is that I can not seem to get the engine/transmission to come out. I am practically positive that I have disconnected everything. The harness is gone, heater hoses are gone, A/C is disconnected, no vacuum lines, and nothing I can see from any side. Now the problem is is that it won't come out. I go to pull and it moves about 1 inch and nothing more. I even disconnected the drive shaft at the differential. Also I can not disconnect the engine and transmission because the bolt at the top of the bell housing is almost stripped around so there is no drilling or sockets or anything that can get to it. The transmission dips down so that it all angles but when I tug on the hoist it barely moves. The exhaust is already removed and so is the transmission mount + cross member. But I noticed that there seems to be something holding on behind the intake manifold but I can not see anything still connected behind it. Because it seems to lean when I go to lift it up. And this is the only thing holding me back from getting it done. And I have been at this point for a month now. It is a 92 model and I have everything else pulled off.If there is anything else I need to add let me know.Any help is appreciated.

Did you unbolt the motor mounts, they should be the only thing that will hold the engine in the car.

You need to lift the motor by connecting your chain to two good bolts close to the #2 cylinder. This will naturally cause the engine and transmission to lean back at the proper angle to pull it. But be sure not to let it lean back too far or it will get caught up on the firewall somewhere.

Honestly I have never heard of anyone not being able to pull an engine, let alone in a month lol. You might have to get rough with it and show it whos boss... that is if the motor you are pulling is a KA of course.

Did you remember to disconnect the shifter?

Shifter is probably going to be your culprit. Anyways. FSMs FTW:

The shifter is already out and disconnected I did that when I took out my dash. And the lower harness is gone along with the main engine harness, I sold those along with the engine computer. The heater hoses are actually cut (mainly cause they are looking old and nasty and need to be replaced anyways.) I will try pulling off the A/C and power steering pump off tomorrow (and yes it is the KA that I am trying to get out). And the thing is is that this is not my first engine to pull. And I set the car up on jack stands about 1 1/2 - 2 feet off the ground (give or take a few inches) to get a little better angle with the trans/engine but that does not seem to be the problem. I guess it must be getting hung up on the fire wall. I will find out tomorrow, but let the suggestions keep coming I appreciate all the help.

I don't see what your problem is it took me 25 minutes to get my ka out with hand tools. You don't need to remove the ac and powersteering just the lines going to them. If the car is 2 feet off the ground your hoist may be over extended and can't lift any higher. When you try to lift the engine does it move or does the car go with it?

If I were you after 4 months I'd just stop being a prancy boy and rip the damn thing out of the car its the easiest motor swap you'll find. Not to burn you or anything but its 12 weeks come on!

I have actually just been working on the motor pull for about 2-3 weeks, I have spent the other couple months dis assembling and selling stuff out. And when I go to pull it out it seems the car goes with it.

The transmission was somehow getting caught on the power steering lines on the rack and pinion but it looked like nothing was getting stuck when the engine was being lifted up. My buddy had the idea to just push up on the transmission too while lifting and it popped out.
