I bought my '89 with an sr20 about 6 months ago. It's always had trouble upon startup to where I must hold the gas pedal to idle or else it will stall. Once the car is heated up it purs like a kitten. If I turn the car off after it's been warmed up and then restart it while still warm the problem is not there. So I know it's a cold start issue. I'm leaning towards a vaccum problem as there are many disconnected nipples on the throttle body. I check FMIC piping and bov connections for cracks/leaks and found nothing...

This previous post describes my problem exactly:

zerothread/274935

However, there was never any followup to his problem. From searching the forum I've gathered that these things could potentially be causing the issue:

-spark plugs-vaccum leak on intake side-incorrect timing-bad MAF

This weekend I will be looking into all of these issues but I think I will start by checking for Vaccum leaks and MAF functionality since they sound like the most likely indicator of a problem. Does anyone know where I can find a vacuum connection diagram for the SR20? I'm going to buy some cleaner for the MAF this weekend as well. If I determine a bad MAF it'll give me a good reason to upgrade to the Z32 MAF.

Well thanks in advance for any help provided! -Nick

i just got my car back from an sr swap yesterday and it has the same problem. Only mines is a s14 notch top. The guy that swapped it in said it was normal, but i've been in sr's that run fine w/out this problem. Any answers to this would be appreciated
