hey guys i just did a timing chain on my s13 sr. i also added bc 264 cams. i fired up the car, it started and idled but like crap. the engine wont rev past 3k, and the motor is shaking alot, like 2 inches side to side. i think the timing may be off a tooth but when i put a timing light on it, the car was pulling 15 degrees advance. my timing chain could be off a tooth and the ignition could still be in time right? just want some insight before i take this b**** back apart, thanks. also could i just pop the tensioner off and maybe move the chain 1 tooth over on the cams, or should i go through the whole damn process again.

Go through the whole process again, per FSM. Follow it and you should have no problems. My .02.

Here's a pretty good write up.zerothread/254179

I don't know much about cams and turbo engines (haven't researched it a whole lot cuz i'm not $$ enough for cams yet) BUT, you might need a retune because those cams are probably significantly different than your old setup... Not sure though.

Sounds like your CAS may be off. It's tricky on these nissans, you have to spin it an extra tooth away from where the mark is because the gear spins the CAS when you insert it. Same trouble with nissan distro's heh.

But yes, if it's not that it's your timing chain man. You don't need to take the cover off, only get to the cam gears and take one cam gear off then it'll be loose enough to fix
