As some of you know I just got a a S 13 w/ a redtop. What is the the correct size for an oil filter for an SR.

is it the15208-55Y00 OEM part#? Or?

Not so much looking for advice on brands but for the part#'s /exact sizes/model numbers of filters for a given filter (OEM or Mobil1 K&N etc.) that are known to fit this engine properly.

Thanks,

Fred..:)

I bought several of Nissan part #: 15208-53J00.

I have used one so far and it seems to work fine. I just asked the guy at the dealer for a 93 Sentra SE-R filter and that is what I got. Like I said, it works for me. Don't forget new crush washers for the drain plug while you are there.

If you get the SE-R filter from K&N, you'll end up with one too small. It's part number 20006, i think. You want 20008. Which is for the 1.8l version. Go figure

I guess so, but I stick with oem parts typically for something like that. Never really felt much difference with the K&N v. OEM for oil filters just that the OEM ones seemed to keep the oil cleaner longer.

this is the filter i use. it says 2008, and we cross referenced it back with the filter i had originally on the block

what's odd is that when i run 2008 through the search program, it returns no results.

S13 SR20DET = use B13 Sentra SE-R filterS14/S15 SR20DET = use B14 Sentra SE-R filter

I assume you made typo.

http://www.knfilterchargers.co...-2008here's what gets me. it lists the 1.6l Sentra. Which is not the SE-R. I'm confused because it works.

It's probably just smaller (although it fits). Just get the right one next time. :)

If i can remember, there was a thread on this forum that stated that there are really 2 different kinds of filters for our engines. The redtops are not exactly the same. I would serach, but Im at work and it would let me.

There is also a thead that stated which is which, as one redtop has "fins" on the front of the block and the other does not. I know that I am not helping too much, but it should help clear up the confusion if someone can look it up.

PS try Freshalloy also.

I always use a '92 Sentra SE-R filter from Nissan Dealership #15208-53J00. Works fine.

I've never heard anyone make that argument before. Most people you talk to will say that OEM Nissan oil filters are definitely the best.

Some of our most organized and well resourced Sponsors are dealer parts departments :

i hate paying the dealership markup. Never said anything about bad quality. 9 bucks per plug and you have to order 12 of them.

Secret.... if you say you are from a local area mechanic shop... they hook you up nicely!! I got 4 plugs for $8 each and 2 oil filters for $5 each...... too bad i have to wait 4 days for them to come form a Nissan dealer in GA. No one else has em.
