Hello,
My name is Michael Kent and I am the creator of the SR20 Installation DVD. I have only started visiting this site recently and I am quite excited at all the interest my DVD has created. Before I start sounding like a Corporate suit, let me give you guys some background info. I'm a 21 year old student studying Television broadcasting in Toronto, Canada. My love for cars lead me to Nissan, and that love has turned into a way of life. I am not a rich guy and school is pretty expensive, so I really had little options to souping up my 240. I wanted to do a 180sx conversion, but I couldn't afford to do all of it, especially the SR20 engine swap. I researched and saved for about a year, and finally worked up the courage to tackle the project, as I knew it would be the only way I could afford it. I started to buy parts off ebay and related sites, and I got almost every part other than the RHD conversion pieces. I worked on it in a non-heated garage through 7 months of cold winter. I did everything by myself without any power tools and I had no mechanical experience before I started. My goal was to show people that this swap is possible by hand. It really is. What makes it hard is the lack of knowledge availible to North Americans and that's why I made the DVD. It outlines how I made everything work to factory spec. It (more importantly) outlines all of my mistakes with their solutions to make things easier on everyone else doing the swap. I'm not out to get rich off the whole thing. Every cent I make off of the DVD will help fund my next project; an RB26. I still need to work up the guts for it, though!I see alot of people in this forum commenting on things I address in the video. For instance, Fibercus mentioned paying for a harness. Although I supply all the necessary diagrams with the video to do the harness yourself, I paid to have it done by Heavy Throttle. I thought this way all I have to worry about is putting the motor in, then starting it up. I was wrong. The wiring harness is very sensitive at parts, and sure enough, my wiring had a small error. But I had nowhere to start! If you were to do the harness yourself, you'd have certain feelings about parts being potential problem areas later. Since I didn't do the harness, I was lost and had to call in an electrician to find the problem. This is entirely outlined and solved in my video. I reccommend doing the harness yourself and then getting an electrician to maybe check everything over. That way, at least you're doing everything locally so you have somewhere to go if a problem does arise. I joined this forum to learn more about Nissans and answer questions to others who want to learn as well. Regarding the SR swap, if anyone has any questions, feel free to email me at
[email protected] and I'll respond as soon as possible. Karter 74 was right, I am selling the DVD's with the converted FSM for $18.00 shipped. Let this be the start of an SR army. The sooner we all do it, the sooner we all get to drive smog-legal Skylines.
