screw 200hp, i want a 35hp motard for some good old fashion hooliganism. my girly bike has less than 80hp but it's still too easy to break the law. it does suck getting killed on the straights at the track, though.

texas requires basic msf class to get a motorcycle license.

I like what they've done up around Chicagoland. For free, you can register for a weekend-long course. They provide everything, including the bike and helmet. You walk in not knowing how to ride, and you walk out knowing how to ride and having a piece of paper turn in at the DMV to get your license updated to a class M. Friend of mine is an instructor. I'm going to attend one next year (they are offered all summer, rain or shine, but the early-season courses fill up within hours after opening for online registration in March).

Hehe, my girly bike has 18hp to the wheels...

Anyway, it'll be interesting how they implement the Traction control system. Ducati has it on a few of their bikes and it has selectable levels of intervention. Simply awesome!

eh...someone says they're smarter than me...well, they're probably full of s***.

I'll continue to think I'm dumber than 90 percent of the world be it true or not.

let's just bring back Gladiator games for people convicted of stupid actions.

that said, I don't wanna get hit by anything doing more than 30 and even then, f*** better just dodge me. Especially if it's for some really stupid reason.

motorcycles getting power increases? Darwin will love this.

seriously though. 600cc supersports are already retarded quick. there is absolutely no need for a 1000cc sportbike in street legal trasportation, but same for most of your high end sports cars. there isn't even a need for a honda civic to do 100mph, but they do.

oh and... Kawasaki FTW!

Outlawing things is silly. Let them all kill themselves, and the market will adjust.
From a momentum standpoint, that makes sense. But understand that the bikes cross section is much smaller and by relative comparison is like comparing a knife to a hammer. While a hammer will exert a greater amount of impact, the knife can do a lot of damage because all of the momentum/energy is localized where the hammer's impact will be spread over the area of the head. The PSI of force will be much greater with the knife. Depending on where the bike hits you, your door for example, it could cause some serious injury or kill you. Think of how a car can be split in half by a pole at a high enough speed. It just depends on the type of accident. Not that an 85 mph side impact from a 3000 lb car is anything to scoff at either...

When I was home this past summer, I rode three bikes. A R6, a GSX-R 1000 (172hp) and the 2010 CBR 1000 (178hp). The two 1K bikes are absolutely NUTS. While I am not totally inexperienced, I haven't ridden routinely since I was 19. I do however have my scooter and ride my friends bikes when I am home.

The CBR has so much torque that it can idle down the road at 10mph. When I rode it, I got on the highway and opened it up just a little and it got up to 80 in no time.

I think it's a bit much for my current situation right now, but in the future, I'm gonna try to get my hands on an old school CBR 900RR in black/yellow.

Oh chad, it's technically not free...it's $20 to sign up and then if your a jew you can get that $20 back after the course is over but i don't think anybody actually asks for it back...it just goes into the program.

I've take the msf basic course twice already since turning 18, i plan on taking it once more and then i'll take the next level course.

Basic engine math says 13,500 rpm and 200hp peak output don't add up to impressive, especially when you're not fighting emissions garbage in the process. Give an F20C a 13,500 rpm redline and emissions-free aspiration and it'll make gobs of power, too.

I'm not suggesting that 200hp between your legs isn't insane. But more revs have always equaled more hp. Being a crotch-rocket doesn't change that.

What course are you taking for $20?

Here in FL the MSF course is $200, and a requirement!

And those engines last how many tens of thousands of miles?

But I agree, in the grand scheme that isn't impressive.

They do this in Indiana too. You can either just take the test at the DMV to get a motorcycle license, or this course can be substituted. It's run by various motorcycle institutions in the state, NOT by the state itself. They have various levels of rider training courses. I'm actually quite happy they do this, as it allows riders to improve their skills at a low cost to the individual. Much safer (and an excellent resource) than just passing some lame test at the DMV.

Not sure what you're aiming for here, but I just have to say bikes are now saddled with the same emissions s*** as cars. Notice how exhausts all look huge and bulky these days? They're hiding multistage cats in there.

Oh, and 200hp/L with a factory warranty and emissions nonsense is an impressive thing, no matter how you slice it.

That's a very rare occurrence, however.

That's what happened to the Interceptor (buried it in the side of a Buick Century at 45 or so... )

That pic is misleading... It's a big bike hitting a pathetic excuse for a car (likely with no side impact beams - notice it;s not a US model).

When I was doing accident investigations, never once did I see any significant bike-on-car damage. But I saw fatalities in car-on-car incidents at parking lot speeds.

I'm installing what is best explained as being similar to a giant woodsplitter on the front of my bike. Cager problem? SOLVED.
