Hey guys, this company http://www.classicdesignconcepts.com/ is located near me and I used to work for a guy that hangs out with the owner of this place, so there might be a possible hook up with these people. So hopefully after I get in touch with them they can take my car as a doner and we'll get somethin goin! They'll probably want to know if people will actually buy these things so I was just gonna print out this thread as living proof. So if you're interested post up!

I'd love to see an illustration of what it would look like.

If it was less than $500, I'd be VERY interested.

YES. I am getting another convertible and I will have some extra cash. I am selling my old vert to a fellow 240 enthusiast and he has told me he would be interested in one as well, so add two more to the production list.

Under $500, I'd be in.

I'd want some say in what it looks like, but I'm down.

I'd like one but not until I get my cage, due to the cage it will probably have to be custom made anyway. If they were ABS plastic I'd be interested though.

Count me in on this as well, as long as the design is solid and the price not too overbearing.

my friend and I are gonna do some fiberglass work, maybe over Xmas break or sometime... I'm thinking about doing a speedster cover and seeing how it turns out. Once the first one is made it would be easier to make copies and he said we might be able to use his parent's garage for the work. But I'm holding off until I see how the first one goes, how it looks like. If I end up doing it I'll post pics up and people can tell me if they would want one. Also my friend pointed out that we would save a lot of money if we wrapped them in weather resistant vinyl instead of paint. I really think they'd look better painted but anyone who has worked with f'glass can vouce for how hard it is get a nice smooth painted finish on a hand laid fiberglass piece.

I just talked to him today, we got clearance to use his parents garage to do some fiberglass work sometime over xmas break, so hopefully I'll have a sample boot cover by the end of december, with a sample speedster cover in the works soon.

well I decided to change directions with the plan and I am going to be doing a boot cover/speedster cover all in one. I have been looking at some designs for other cars and I think I'll have to go with a 2 piece design so that it can be stored easily. I am going to be doing a hardtop for my car too though and I'm just gonna ditch the stock top and hydraulics and all that crap, but I have to wait till I get my roll bar to make sure its all going to clear. I would probably have it done by now but I've been working some insane hours lately so I have had no time to work on my car.

if I had a garage I'd be done by now, but the neighbors were complaining about me working late at night when I was just working with handtools at 8 PM... I can't imagine what they would say if I was power sanding fiberglass. I'm going to save it for a day when I don't have to work.

landlord said I'm gonna get evicted if I do ANY more work on my car (even changing oil) so any work I do has to be at other peoples houses, so work has been slow. also I'm planning on ditching the stock top and then making my speedster cover without it, so I'm not sure if it would fit over the stock top or not. I was originally going to do it to fit over the stock top but I think it would look ugly. I really need a shop or a garage to work on it in, if I had one I could crank out a few different variants for those with or without the cloth top...

i'd be in...but i dun think these things will be cheap...take for example trunks.. they cost a grip for frp or carbonf fiber. just my .02. i would pay up to 1200 for a legit perfect fit one. in terms of cages and having them in verts..there is very little difference but for hight, it doesn't matter

if I make one without the top its going to be flush with the side panels in the rear... if I make one to fit over the top, well... it obviously won't since it will have to have some humps on the side to clear the framework. I'm not even thinking about doing any carbon fiber ones now, too much of a shortage, I can't even find piece large enough. I might be able to do one out of kevlar once I get a mold made, thats what I plan on doing mine out of (and my hood and eventually trunk). but I'm not planning on making kevlar ones for other people they are more work.

I have actually considered doing this myself. One of the guys in a local club I am involved with is a master with fiberglass. He said if I bought materials and made the mold out of wood he would help me with the fiberglass. Unfortunitly the weather here lately has been crap so I havent yanked the top yet to build the mold. Maybe by summers end or before our car show[wishful] I will have it done. I will keep track of cost on it for those interested. I am aiming for 350 operation but space needed for components is looking tight.

I dont know if any of you would be interested or not as it will be fiberglass. As said earlier CF is scares right now and kevlor is rediculas, besides I dont know anyone who knows how to work with it.

yeah $350 is doable for fiberglass if you get the mold good enough... if you start with a ****ty mold its gonna cost you a lot more to make each one and drive costs up (and hurt the quality of the final product) so if you do make a mold make sure you take your time and get it perfect. The kevlar ones would be more expensive obviously but kevlar is relatively forgiving to work with as long as you dont mess up the wave pattern while laying it... but they would also be stronger/lighter.
