Alright well here's my question.I believe the specs for CF is roughly 2x's as strong as steel and 1/3 the weight of aluminium? So I'm wondering in a car accident in which your stock hood is designed to crumple.....what would happen with a CF hood? Would it snap the mounts? Would it crumple? Would it create a hazard?Has anyone seen someone with a CF hood wrecked?

I haven't, but what if it came through the windshield? Being impaled by a carbon fiber hood doesn't sound fun :)

carb fibre hoods have signifcant flex ratings... it would probably just go flying off the car...

Im planning on using a C/F hood, but also doing plexi(composite..) rear 1/4 windows, and hatch glass...

glass is ****ing super heavy. If I could fine more things to lighten the car I would....the lighter the car, the fast it is(although it doenst affect top speed much) I can smoke cars with more HP and myself, mostly because of my low gearing and low weight...

if and when the hood broke, it would really just tear, the fibers keep it together. its kinda like fiberglass breaking, but more flexible. and as for paint, the coolest thing i saw, although it was on a riced out eclipse, was getting a candy clear coat on the hood. the color was this maroon cooler and the carbon fiber had this red shade to it. looked pretty nice

Use Lexan for your windows... its relatively light, and 10000000000000000000000 times stronger than glass... well maybe not that much...

Yea... most people put it in when they put in a big sound system, because it wont shatter like glass.... sort of like sound proofing...

i have had friends' hoods fly off before...all it did was shatter the glass, it didn't break it...he was haulin *** too. as far as wrecks go, i have seen the hoods crumple, not shatter. my friend totaled his car w/ a cf hood on it, it pretty much did the same thing. the cf bent...didn't shatter. the **** under it probably shatters, but then u have the CF over it to protect it...KINDA. lol. i'm pretty sure they wouldnt' make them legal if they weren't safe, don't u?? ****, i trust them enough to have on on my car....i just hope i don't wreck cuz then i gotta pay for the ***** all over again!!

why do you think they use cf driveshafts? it's lighter, stronger, doesn't twist as much, and when it does break it shreads into fibers, a metal driveshaft will flail around and cause a lot of damage.

I dont think Carbon Fiber is stonger than steel, it has a better strenth to weight ratio. If they made it as thin as steel panneling then it would be worthless, I guess the few layers make it thicker but still lighter and as rigid as steel...

if I got 2k, its not going into the driveshaft. its going into the suspension.

I'm sorry dude, but its all in your head. No way in hell there is a SOTP feeling from having 3-4 less gallons of gas in your car.

Lexan sucks. It turns yellow in the heat. Polycarbonate is better.

it reminds me of when lisa kubo got disqualified and said "i know the freaking difference between a 9.1 pass and a 9.21 pass...on the 9.1 pass i felt my ears pinned back to my head".....

lmao(back when she thought she set the record, and they said she tripped the lights)

2k is a joke.

I paid $700 for mine from ACPT. They can make one any lenght you want for no more than $800. Balancing it shouldn't cost much more, you should never be over $1000.

Sorry if I posted in the wrong area. Sue me.

I won't sue you, but I'll be sure to ignore your questions in the future, dipstick.

what if you had a cf hood AND half tank a gas?results are bound to start showing up then. that would be 62 pounds with those calculations.

62 lbs I don't think is all that noticeable. My little sister is small (I guess like 80, 90lbs) I don't see any difference in acceleration or braking when she is in the car.

100lbs reduces your 1/4 by roughly .1...a larger difference can be made when a driver has a "bad" run compared to a good run...

If you wanna lighten your car....you need to go the full 9.

link? I'd buy that, and is it a once peice, or two? stock my 1993 has a 2-piece and I'd love to eliminate that center bushing.
