Picture won't show, but it's in Section TM, Page 250.Looking through the FSM on CVT function/maintenance, I did discover how to remove the shift knob. Pop the chrome cover down and pull the staple, knob should come right off. I should have known, the knob on our '96 Impala SS comes off teh same way. Here's the FSM shot, not sure the picture will show up:Exploded View INFOID:0000000001344897Removal and Installation INFOID:0000000001344898REMOVAL1. Remove the center console assembly. You have to be careful not to scratch the top of the shifter plate with the bottom of the cubby. I put a towel over the plate to protect it. There is just enough room to pull out the cubby, mine popped right out (keep door closed). IF you could pull off the shift knob and remove the plate completely, than it would be very easy but I couldn't figure out how to remove that shift knob. If you have a manual transmission, that might be easier, betting that knob just unscrews off but could also be glued in place. If I had to remove mine again, I'd probably cover things with painters tape to keep it from getting scratched. If someone knows how to remove the automatic shift knob - shout out!
