How to remove shift knob:

LOL sorry, never tried that on this car. I would think the bottom of the knob has a screw on cap which removes and reveals a screw beneath it. At least that's how my old car and my aftermarket MOMO knob were held in place.

Good deal. I have to go back into mine at some point. I mounted a CB radio in the glove box, but grabbed power/ground off the glove-box light, which is only on with the headlights...I'm going to run another cigarette 12V adaptor over to the one in the cubby and run a dual plug adaptor. That's my poor-man's NAV...I started looking around the online FSM but there's a ton of pages to wade through. There has to be some reference to the shift knob buried in there. No hidden screw AFAIK, particularly with the push-button on the side.Might have to wait till my cast comes off or at least I'm off crutches.

Well, I just discovered a problem that has me worried. Took the car to a spray-off car wash and washed the recent layer of salt off. Driving home, I start hearing some static/electrical noises from the left front speaker. Radio shuts down, no sound. I get home, look at the fuses and they're all OK. Pull the door panel and my new speaker. It's dripping wet and the cross over box is also wet. I pull the speaker, dry everything off and reinstall. I believe the window was hitting the box, because it made a sound at the bottom of the travel. But the inside of the door panel was pretty wet. I pulled the passenger side and found the same amount of moisture. I'm afraid those speakers won't last very long in that environment. Everything looks properly sealed along the window edge and elsewhere. I should not have disturbed any weather proofing just by removing the interior door panel.

Has anyone else experienced any moisture issues on the door panels? I guarantee if I take it back to the dealer, they'll blame my speaker install.

Wow, sorry to hear about that. I never had that problem; all seemed sealed off well on my car. I originally installed Polk's all the way around, but like you know, I had the ohm load problem so I went back in and installed the Infiniti's. The second time around I saw no water or moisture and my speakers were not harmed in any way.

Did you remove the factory plastic seal when you installed yours? All I did was remove the factory speaker and I sealed off the area with dynamat and drilled my new holes with self-tapping screws. Never touched the seal at all.

All I did was pull the panel and remove the factory speaker. I pulled the two speaker wires from that grommet that runs on the outer panel and put it inside. There was no plastic barrier, etc. behind the speaker housing. Where did you put your dynamat material, just on the interior metal skin just under the door panel? There are about a dozen screws holding a panel in place, which I assumed gives access to the window regulator, but I didn't touch any of that. I should probably go back in and put some plastic or a foam cover over the speaker to give it some protection. I had two with my Honda, which I didn't use and sent to the guy who bought those speakers. Figures. They're about $15 from Crutchfield.

It just really worries me that interior panel was that wet inside.

Picture won't show, but it's in Section TM, Page 250.Looking through the FSM on CVT function/maintenance, I did discover how to remove the shift knob. Pop the chrome cover down and pull the staple, knob should come right off. I should have known, the knob on our '96 Impala SS comes off teh same way. Here's the FSM shot, not sure the picture will show up:Exploded View INFOID:0000000001344897Removal and Installation INFOID:0000000001344898REMOVAL1. Remove the center console assembly. You have to be careful not to scratch the top of the shifter plate with the bottom of the cubby. I put a towel over the plate to protect it. There is just enough room to pull out the cubby, mine popped right out (keep door closed). IF you could pull off the shift knob and remove the plate completely, than it would be very easy but I couldn't figure out how to remove that shift knob. If you have a manual transmission, that might be easier, betting that knob just unscrews off but could also be glued in place. If I had to remove mine again, I'd probably cover things with painters tape to keep it from getting scratched. If someone knows how to remove the automatic shift knob - shout out!

Well, pulled the door panel and speakers for now the third and hopefully final time! I bought a pair of XTC waterproof speaker baffles and installed them behind each speaker. I also moved the cross-over housing inside the door. Now they'll be fine even if a litle moisture gets inside.

I did call my dealership and the service guy said the window seals aren't completely water-tight and that was why there is a drain hole in each door panel. The Infinity speakers I bought were much deeper than the factory speaker housing and would be prone to getting wet. If you installed aftermarket speakers, you may want to pull your door panel after washing and check if any water is getting on your connections.

I think I can pull those panels now blind-folded....

Me too! I had to do mine twice, and I believe that's enough for me.

I put a set of these 6.5" baffles behind each speaker. Gave them a bit more bass as well.

Wow, those are cheap! Hmm...I'm debating whether or not I should install those. I really don't want to take it apart for the third time though.

I think my speakers would have been ruined without them. The bad news (besides pullling the door panel off three times..) is I had set, never used them in my Honda and sold them with those speakers.....
