My wife just picked me up a new copy of Star Craft for my birthday. I realize it's old but this is easily a classic. My copy walked a year or two ago under mysterious circumstances. Just thought I'd share my excitement.

Best thing about Starcraft were all the awesome RPG/Defence maps that were made for online play...God I love this game and can't wait for the new ones...

En Taro Tassadar!

I re-purchased StarCraft and Brood War a few months back to replace my well-used discs. Fantastic game, great story, SC2 is going to kick a**.

P.S.'Toss > *

Oh, and you should check out the new Battle.net. You can register your CD keys with battle.net and gain the ability to download the game client any time, anywhere. Means you'll never have to worry about replacing discs again. I have DII, SC, and WoW all tied to my Bnet account.

Double post for important stuff:

If you guys want to try and get in on the SCII beta, you can opt-in through the new b.net account system. You'll have to download an app to detect and report your system specs to blizzard but apparently even having a crappy system (like me for now) won't rule you out of getting in on the beta.

Looks like the beta will begin this summer.

We require additional pylons.

I saw the SCII beta opt-in yesterday and signed up for it. I would be ecstatic if I got in this time. I missed the WC3 and WoW betas.

It would definitely rock. If I get into the DIII beta (whenever that happens)...then I'll be ecstatic. I opted in for all 3, though, since I play all 3.

Warcraft II was never under a different company. It's the second game in a Blizzard-created series. Why would anyone else have had anything to do with it? Someone else did develop the expansion but that's the only non-Blizzard WC game ever.

Never under a different company?

Blizzards title is no where on this CD. It's under a different company, and the game is NAMED WARCRAFT II.

I have never seen the game online, I have never seen anyone else with the game. Never seen the game other then in my hands, PERIOD.

If i post a screenshot, i'm afraid people will be all over it, mainly blizzard.

I think someone wrote Warcraft II, got someone to publish it, then made another company OR the company that published the game merged with "up-coming blizzard" then blizzard released the title, with the programmers concent of course

Man i'll just get it tomorrow and post pics up

It'll blow your fragile little minds

And i do repeat

I Hold, Warcraft II, With Purple writing, and some company THAT IS NOT blizzard, stamped on the cd.

Mind you, my grandfathers played computer games since they started being made on CD. This is where i aquired it from.

And it's not the expansion. This is an Original Warcraft II disk, that is published NOT by blizzard, with nothing to do with Blizzard on it.

That's what I'm saying. How on earth is that possible if Warcraft ONE was created by Blizzard? That doesn't make any sense. Blizzard was already LONG established by the time WCII development began. They were not up-coming. They were Blizzard. With Warcraft already established as their (and only their) intellectual property. They were the only developers to touch Warcraft II. This is not "I think" this is fact. I can tell you without question that it was not developed by someone else to then end up in the hands of Blizzard. It was created as original work by Blizzard from the first moment. No one merged with them (although that WAS the case with Diablo, brilliant developer Condor created Diablo and then merged with Blizzard as Blizzard North).

Warcraft II was never under development by another company. Ever. It began, ran it's course, and ended with Blizzard with the exception of the expansion.

What is the name of the company that's not Blizzard?

Blizzard did have international publishing arrangements with other publishers outside the US, maybe you have one of those boxes. Those were just publishing arrangements, though...none of those publishers ever had anything to do with the game itself.Or maybe you have some early or pre-release demonstration copy or something like that.Or you might have one of the console ports.

Well I got the BEAT ap to work, so I'm expecting an invite. I started playing through Brood Wars now, as it wasn't around when I used to play. There are a lot of new units to deal with.

Excellent game indeed, I have to finish beating the expansion pak before StarCraft 2 drops! Funny thing, I was watching Aliens and the pilot of the dropship is almost identical to the pilot on StarCraft, she even says the same lines like "We're in for some chop!" and what not...anyone else notice that?

Yeah, Blizzard did that on purpose. Most of the WC and SC humorous unit quotes are pop-culture references like that.

I especially like the "pester" quotes. If you set a CTRL group and keep selecting them eventually they all say hidden things. The acolytes from WC3 always say "My life for Nazul". If you pester them he says "My life for Aiur!, I mean, Nazul" Or the one female night elf unit "I'll distract them with my human call.... I'm so wasted I'm soo wasted." The SCVs "I can't believe they put me into this thing, I told them I was claustrophobic!" The zerglings yell "SHUT UP" in their zerg speak.

Yeah, all the Blizz RTS games since WCII have had lots of good annoyed quotes. My favorite is still Deathwing from the WCII expansion: Do you like fire? I'm full of it!

Odd, totally independent of this thread (as I hadn't seen it before) I reinstalled a copy of SC on my PC to test a few things. Ended up playing a good portion of the terran campaign so far. What sucks is there are some compatibility issues with Vista (I think its more accurately the number of colors or something). I forced 256 colors but it still has a few issues getting all the colors right at times. Usually just in the menu screens.

Yeah WTF!!! I noticed that it ran perfectly on my old computer but when I installed it on my new machine with Vista the menu and main screens colors were warped!

Games like Starcraft are the reason I haven't hacked up my PIII 500 laptop to build something else. 4:3 display and old OS means good legacy PC game support without any weirdness.

In all honest I am sure they are specifically looking for people with older system to make sure it will run well there too.

I never really player the game much... turns out I suck at RTS

That'd be nice.

I noticed when I ran the detecto-app on my PC, it ignored my non-OS hard drive.

I'm running it on Vista w/o a problem. Perhaps it's your hardware or drivers. I'm not even running in compatibility mode.

*I'm making a series of scenarios. The story is based with the Sons of Korhal during / after the first game. The premise is you operate as head of an elite squadron fr the SoK. The rough draft of lvl 1 is complete. As the elite squadron, you have access to all the research, so no doing that, and I've provided minerals when you start, so you can build a limited number of units. Mission objectives are to rescue six Captured Ghosts from a Zerg Research brood, and destroy their main base's Spore Colonies to clear the way for a SoK BC squadron to move in and assault.

I'll email them out you guys soon. I have a bad trigger on the first map I need to fix first.

I built a new computer and I'm now getting the weird color error you guys were talking about. Did you ever figure it out?
