All I could find was the abstract, but I'm sure the complete article would be an interesting read:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20464803

I'll go ahead and paraphrase for those who don't feel like clicking through to read about this interesting study:

1 in 6 teenagers in the US has smoked marijuana and drove.
50 men / 35 women tested double-blind, placebo controlled.
No discernible difference in driving performance/collision avoidance under the influence of marijuana.
No major difference between sexes.

Guess that means we should all get lifted and go out driving.

That's funny, cause other studies have shown being high is worse then driving drunk. Huh.

what's the difference between a drunk and a stoner? a drunk blows through the stop sign, a stoner stops and waits for it to turn green.

I'm just surprised I don't see more studies on this. I question the basis of a lot of the drug laws, but maybe that's just me. I'd like access to this entire article, but I would also enjoy reading the counterpoint articles that you speak of, Tyler.

i'd like to see a study performed on a closed road. i feel the real driving experience may garner different results. it needs to be a closed road, though. i think a lot of people would f*** up a cone course sober.

I don't know that a closed road would really suffice either. Traffic variations would be my largest concern, and those obviously don't exist on a closed course. Clearly, this is a very difficult experiment to develop, not to mention the legality of simply possessing marijuana.

It says they used a driving simulator. Driving simulator = giant video game. So, all they've proven is something stoners have already known for a long time: getting baked doesn't make you worse at video games.

Well then... Does it seem odd that the stoned participants weren't better at the simulation then? Seems to be a common thought by many stoners that they should have performed better at video games.

This totally depends on the person.

I know some people who can go through life stoned, go to work, read, drive, do anything.

I'm a RETARD under such circumstances. I can barely leave the couch, let alone drive a car, at least if we're talking about good shxt in a decent quantity.

Yeah MJ's effect on people varies wildly. Depending on brain chemistry and time spent smoking. I have some friends who live their life baked out of their gourd. Where as others I have to babysit when they smoke a little bit at a party. Myself...I'm a really good/lucky driver in the first place (10 years no tickets/accidents)...all pot does is make me more paranoid/I drive slower.
However...there is no way in HELL driving stoned is worse than driving drunk. You just pulled that out of your a** ADD.

That may be on account of you being female.

Testing on 85 people isn't nearly enough to make such a controversial claim and have it taken serisously.
But I hope it's true. We need weed legal asap.

Seeds of the plant cannabis sativa, hemp seed, contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain healthy human life. No other single plant source has the essential amino acids in such an easily digestible form, nor has the essential fatty acids in as perfect a ratio to meet human nutritional needs.

Unless sterilized so they cannot make another plant Hempseed is illegal still. Doesn't make sense that it is still Schedule 1.

Screw Henry Anslinger any one who worked for him or after him in the same pursuit.

It used to be illegal for farmers to refuse to grow Hemp, especially during times of war.

I'd do it if I could get away with it, but as it stands Virginia will PIIYB if you get caught, eventhough we were one of the hemp states.

Main reason I want Hemp Legal. Isochanvre.

This much we do know: Isochanvre is flame-proof, non-toxic, 1/9 the weight of cement, retains heat in winter, is cool in the summer and is unpalatable to rats, insects, or termites.

Because of its flexibility and strength it is the ideal material for building in areas susceptible to earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes; and over time the plant elements bind with the minerals to make the building stronger and more valuable as it ages.

Small wonder, then, that advocates extol it as the nearest we will get to perfection: a totally sustainable, non-toxic alternative to bricks and concrete capable of producing the kind of energy efficient, environmentally friendly buildings which most governments insist they want to see built as a matter of course.

If you don't think getting high impairs driving, you're probably smoking maple leaves.
