OEM are NGK! As long as they are the PFR6G-11 you have no problems.

I realize they are, but i didnt know if the "cheaper" ones were really not as good.

BTW, in my 1990 service manual, it says PFR6B-11, not PFR6G-11. I have a 94, did they change them from 90 to 94?

I think you'll find they were superseded to the new number. In the 94 manual they list the PFR5G-11 up to PFR7G-11. :D

Elwesso,

I have a set of six PFR5G-11's if you're interested. If so, shoot me an email at [email protected].

By the way, I used a set of Denso Platinum's on the Q before and the car ran fine.

I'd never use Bosch plugs on a japanese car after having had +4's in my 240sx. The car ran usually rough and plugs fouled up quickly.

I dont know if it is better or not to run the hot type. What do you think.

Where did you get the denso platinums?

Has anyone tried champion?

DON'T USE CHAMPION. sorry to yell, but just don't!

Elwesso, you are free to use ANY plug you like, just we are trying to keep you from unnecessary pain. Use the NGK & you won't have to replace them for 60,000 Miles. Some members have had various problems with different brands of plugs, & the NGK was made especially for this motor. ie: When a manufacturer is building an engine, they get a Plug Manufacturer to develop the correct plug for each engine. Sometimes thay will use an existing plug, but NGK was called on to make the correct plug for the Q's.

Regular. You only need the Hotter ones if you live in a colder climate & do a lot of short runs. eg, 5-10 miles each trip.

NB It's OK to use the regular ones in colder climate, IF you get the engine to normal operating temp most times. :D

What are the + and - of using the BKR5E-11 (resistor type) instead of PFR5G-11 other than having the plugs replaced every 25K miles instead of every 60K?

Box of four from rockauto.com - $10.48 (2.62 each vs. 8.25 each from Scotsdale Infiniti for the normal NGK platinum or $16.50! from the local dealer)

Search rockauto for ngk part #4014 for the price

I think the $10.48 is each. If you add them to your cart, it puts you at $10.48x4.... got my hopes up for a minute there!

Each plug is made specefically for each vehicle. That includes Heat Range, Thread size, small or large spanner size & also length internally & externally. The porcelan is different lengths to suit specefic applications.

The main down side is that a spark will jump across the easiest passage, & if you've ever checked out worn plugs, the electrode is worn like a convex, where as a new plug is dead flat. As the electrode changes to the convex shape, the spark gets thinner, therefore the spark is not as strong.

In the Platinum & Gold Paladium ranges, the electrode or the earth terminal, don't wear hardly at all, so the spark stays pretty well the same size throughout its life. Even after 60,000miles, these plugs are still in reasonable shape.

Another point which MUST be kept, just because the plug LOOKS the same, doesn't mean it will Burn the same. Always & again I say ALWAYS!!! use what the Plug manufacturer recommends. Don't even trust the Cross Reference from a competitors catalogue.

There have been cases of engines melting internals because of the incorrect plug fitted.

Just forget about trying to improve or shortcut the manufacturer, & stick to what they spent countless dollars on getting right! :D

The reason I asked about NGK coppers is that I've used them on 95 Maxima and I did not experience any abnormalities. Here are few links :

Oh yes, they'll run OK, for a while, but the Maxima isn't a Hi Performance motor like the Q's, & may not eat plugs, + any little variance may affect the performance.Plus, it takes up to 2 hours to change plugs in the Q, & I think it is bad economy & could cause damage, using the standard plugs.

It takes much longer to change the plugs if you dont have oodles of tools to make the job easier and know how to use them..... It took me almost 7hrs to do the job........ but that included about 1hr of breaks/running around to find tools.........

4-5hrs minimum...... unless you are an experienced aussie!

Yes.... You can even tell a difference between sides..... I seemed to do the passenger side a little fast than the drivers side, regardless of the space issue!

I just bought NGK Iridium IX spark plugs, part # BKR5EIX11 for my 1996 Q45. I can't seem to find wires for the plugs. Where can I get wires for these plugs?

Has anyone used these plugs in their Q?

Thanks

Best to stick with the factory-recommended plugs (latest spec). There are no plug wires, the car's direct-ignition, coil on plug.
