So I just recently bought a 300zx!
I want to give it an amazing sound system!
What are some good setups? Brands? Amps? 6.5 speakers?
Im looking for about 500-1000 watts RMS power
I was considering Kickers L7's but I have Rockford Fosgate 6.5's already in the front door panels, I'd like a good setup that will get the most of our the money's worth, Im also a little unsure about the headunit as well.
Thanks!

Not to sound like a d!ck, but it comes down to personal preference and what you can afford. Bass heavy, lots of subs....good sound, gotta have a decent amp and balanced sound....I run a brand called MMATS speakers, sub and amp with a Pioneer head unit. But like I said, it comes down to budget and personal preference.

As above stated thats a personal preference...I bought all my stereo stuff off of amazon.com thats where u can find best deals. Avoid crutch field. All info regarding this is here 300zx-stereo-installation-write-up-t572341.html

I understand that's it personal preference Im just not sure how to power everything, I have 6.5 Rockford Fosgates putting out 80 watts RMS, I want to put two more 6.5's in the rear panels too so should the head unit give out about 50W X 4? And im thinking about installing just one subwoofer in the hatch maybe a 10 inch L7 kicker at about 400W RMS so how much watt should the amp for that put out?
I know its all based on what kind of music different people listen too but I don't have much knowledge in car audio but this is all a learning experience for me, I've tried researching up different set-ups but they don't seem to fit preference.
Thanks.

And also for loud clear sound, how much watts RMS are considered average for the 6.5 speakers?
I think 80W as a pair may seem low for the Fosgates so I might exchange them for high-powered ones.

for 6.5s dude like 60ws. If your pushing 60w per 6.5 its going to be loud man. a 4 channel 200-300w amp on 4 6.5s will put out more ampx than most 6.5 can handle.

I wouldn't run speakers off the head unit but you can. Most the time head units dont push the wats that is advertised. if it says 50w times 4 thats theretical and that is peak. It would be more like 25ws times 4.

So then I guess I'll go with (4) 6.5 Kickers 11DS65 at 50W each RMS, with a 400W Mosfet amp, that sound good?
& Thanks for all the help dude.

Also, if I wanted to add on the L7 kicker sub in the hatch, I would need a mono amp for that?

Are you going for overkill? Cause that's what it's sounding like.

You can get a mono amp, but with all this power, what are you planning on doing with the charging system? I know from experience the stock charging system won't handle what you're talking about.

Go with components up front, and coaxial speakers in the back. A nice 4x75WRMS or so will do nicely. A 300-400WRMS for the sub channel will set you up nicely. Be sure to run 16 to 14 AWG speaker wires, good quality RCAs and proper grounding and power wiring.

Only key aspect you neglected to mention was your budget. That defines what you can or cannot get.

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with Crutchfield, just be sure to know your prices.

I don't want to go for overkill I just want a better sound system than stock, but not too fancy, would the charging system be able handle just 2 components up front and 2 coaxials in the rear with 50W RMS each, with a 4 channel amp?
The budget is around $300-$400

& how do the components differ from the coaxials? Do they deliver more low frequency sound?
Thanks guys!!

I want to upgrade the sound system in mah 300zx, but Im not going insane with it.
I was thinking:
(4) 6.50 coaxial Rockford Fosgate speakers with 40 RMS each
JVC KD R640 Headunit with 20x4 RMS
(1) L7 Kicker 750 RMS

I know I need an amplifier for the sub BUT I was thinking to install an additional amplifier for the 4 coaxial speakers to give it the full 160W RMS power, if I only have the head unit I'll only get 80 RMS, that wouldnt be much of an upgrade.

However Im concerned over the power of the car, will mah car be able this plan I have, with two amplifiers, one for the speakers and one for the sub? Without any power modifications? \

Thanks alot guys!

What do you mean "Power Modifications". Thats a fairly simple Audio Upgrade, you should have no problems as long as you know what your doing if you plan on doing the work yourself.
