lol the altima coupe was my first car and my parents bought it for me (cash so no worrying about payments and none of it was my money lol). it was either the coupe or a brand new 350z last year lolnightrain wrote:

Say hi to Mommy and Daddy, for me Punk.
Happy 17th Birfday!
If you were my kid, I'd get you a used Honda Civic. And let you make the payments with your lawn mowing money.

You are missing the whole point. Many, many parents who probably have MUCH more money than this kid's know that handing over a new car is not the way to instill values in your child, and may even lead to the kid expecting more freebies in the future, from the parents and others.adidas2go wrote:Nightrain, Its 2008 bro, people have money to give their kids. No need to hate on the entire 16-18 year old category because the family has money. Would you turn down a free car? I don't think so.
Best post I've seen on here.nightrain wrote:

I did receive a free car when I was 17. It was an Oldsmobile, from an Uncle who passed away. I deeply hated that car, and finally got rid of it and bought something I wanted. Used. With my own money.
I don't care if parents help out with the down payment, gas(!), Insurance, maintenance, but I think you'll find that kids whose parents don't indulge them quite so much turn out to work harder, are more motivated, and have better values in their lives as adults. I'll be happy to continue parenting discussions with anyone who is interested offline...
And if this punk wants to come onto this msg board and publicly announce that mommy and daddy are buying a car for him, then I'm sorry but that's fair game for the Nightrain. There was a time when kids would buy a beater car and fix it up. And you wouldn't buy 'illuminated kick plates' if you needed an exhaust manifold. And that would teach you how to budget and prioritize. I guess those days are gone.
My remarks are really more general than personal. But the worst part is all the garbage posts BB put up here and didn't even buy an A/C. Or maybe it's the fact he's from Jersey.
What does the year have to do with it? It doesn't matter if it's 2001, 1988 or 2008.adidas2go wrote:As true as all that might be, your not telling this kids parents anything right now, your telling him. I don't think he wants to hear about how hes being spoiled or may have "bad life values" in the future, because you have a grudge with the PARENTS of 2008. So like I said, absolutely no point in posting that on the boards.
HES FROM JERSEY all those kids are spoiled they get everything handed to him. But i mean altima coupe (practical and NOT a true sports car ie RWD)spockrock wrote:while I agree with night train about parents giving **** away, blake makes a good point, its the parents not the kid who is in the wrong.
Also granted we do not know the situation BB may have to pay for insurance, maintenance, etc himself.
don't start being stupid. just bc someone is from nj doesnt mean thing. it's like me saying bc ur from new york u live in the projects and ur poor. so stop with the stpuid stereotypes. he got a good deal on a nice car.. and he;s paying half of it as well. and even if he wasn't paying a penny.. a parent is entitled to give their kid what they see fit. just becuase u guys have different parenting opinions doesn't mean ur better.PhEnoM78 wrote:

Im 19 and i totally agree with EVERYTHING that nighttrain said. I put 6g down on my car and i make all MY payments. The only diffrence is my parents pay for the insurance 500 per 6 months. The car is registered under my dads name so its cheaper for us. But in the end i have a reliable practical car to take to school. They pay for insurance so i can actually afford it. And they are happy because they dont have to worry bout me gettin home......By the way my first car was an 03 impala which i got at 17. But again i payed for it and they payed insurance.....And i pay for gas to lol never thought that would be something ide say.
