Hi. Dont hate me. But i just rear ended a g35 and wondered if any one could ball park how much the damage might be. I drive an acura csx with a pretty pointed front end. My front end seems to have hit where the license plate sits. Sort of in a little cubby area. The sides of the cubby area have some stress marks (like small cracks) and the plastic frame for the license plate is bent. thats all the damage i could see with the naked eye but there could be more. Any one here work on g35s and could help me out? or has anyone had this damage happen to them? Please help me out. Any comments are appreciated. Minus hating on me cuz i wrecked a g35.

Most likely the whole bumper is going to need to be replaced. If the person knows his/her car, they are probably going to ask the body shop to replace with an oem bumper vs aftermarket replacement. If it doesn't need to be replaced, you should come out okay.

Sory to hear that. It is realy hard to tell you without a picture. Do you or any of your friend has a camera phone? If yes you can take a picture and upload it. If that's too difficult just send it to me on email and I upload it for you.

i highly doubt they would replace the whole bumper because there are no scuffs or scraths on the bumper. since my front end is very pointed, i just rammed into the area where the license plate sits. it is hardly damaged, but we did hit pretty hard so i suspect there may be unobservable damage that i cant see. depressing. But, i got rear ended a couple months ago and i had a big scuff and a dent and it was estimated to be $600-$700 (canadian) so i wouldnt expect it to be more than that. i hope.

I would say something like $300 US for the bumper cover and maybe $300 - 400 Paint/Labor

If it's higher then that they are trying to rip you off.

Apparent damage can be deceiving. Bumper covers tend to be able to pop back into shape fairly easily, but the actual bumper underneath is metal. I haven't looked at it myself, but I suspect it might be aluminum which will be more pricey than steel. It's not uncommon for bumper supports to be damaged as well. As impacts get more severe, it starts to put damage on the rear body and/or trunk floor. The only way to be sure is for the person to have a body shop so a tear down. But typically a tear down is done when the the repairs actually start (other wise they'll charge for the work twice).

That all said, if you have insurance and are that concerned about it, perhaps you should just let them handle it. Why pay a premium if you aren't going to use the coverage you're entitled to?

Well, i would hate to go through insurance for this since i am only 17 and only been driving for 8 months. If the insurance company knew i was in a crash, they might not continue to insure me. I had a hard enough time finding an insurance company to begin with. So i just have to hope the damage is under $1000 then i can just pay for it without telling the insurance company (im not sure if thats the policy everywhere so thats why i described it). But, i do have a friend who has a body shop and i can probably get it for a good price. Thanks for all the input, G35 drivers seem very nice

Ouch, yeah avoid insurance at all costs. You will end up paying for that bumper 10 times if the other person files a claim.

When I got hit in the back of my 05... I saw the body shop bill. The (I think it was called) Rear bar or rebar behind the bumper was bent so needed to be replaced and the bumber had to be re-painted... it came to $2200 Canadian.

Sorry...

alot of them have it, but it is an added option for most of them. I found out after the fact that if I had of wanted it on my policy, it would have cost a measly $30 a year. You can only opt for it when you first sign up though

$30 is pretty reasonable. Tha sucks they only let you do it when you sign up. Oh well. So far I am lucky no accident. I was in accident but not my fault.

Yeah, I was in a minor accident, but I settled that without insurance for very little money. I was in another accident, but it was not at fault. My insurance totalled my 1993 240sx and gave me $6840!!

My 2003 M45 got a big hole in it from being hit from behind.

Replacement bumper, re-painting, etc., cost just under $1000 US.

It's all going to depend on what happened to that bumper. If it's just slightly dented, then there is a chance that it can be heated and "popped" back into shape and may not need paint. If the bumper is cracked then it will be replaced and re-painted. From there the price will vary depending on how much of the car they re-paint to make sure it all matches up. Hopefully it works out alright. Good luck.

Well i still havent heard back from the driver. Which either means they are over it, since there was slight damage, or it means that they are going to get an estimate. I will keep you guys posted. If it ends up being really pricey- who's down for starting a charity case? Btw, i was sad to notice that my car was more damaged than the G35. 2 big dents, her paint all over my front end, and my paint chipped off. poor baby.. she's so beat up and its only been 8 months!!

I have an idea, drive more carefully!!! Avoid distractions, keep aware of your surroundings and don't follow to close behind the car in front. That will keep you out of most accidents. Of course there is always the idiot factor of other people to be aware of, but that is out of your control.

Hope all works out!

Isn't liability insurance mandatory? If not then do your homework as you are doing now but if your car has liability ins. let them handle it.

Well i would say im a pretty good driver. The reason why my car is so beat up is that i got rear ended myself and let the guy off the hook and never got it fixed. So my car is a mess. hahaha. so sad!

Oh man, you let him off the hook totally? You are nicer than I would have been in the situation. I mean, I wouldn't totally have tried to screw him over by filing an insurance claim right away, but to not get any money for it at all? I don't think you will be that lucky with the G35 driver

Note: NOT reporting it to your insurance company doesn't really protect you, and may be a violation of your policy. If the other party files a claim, word will get to your insurer and they may not be too happy about you not telling them. If all parties agree and you can keep it out of the insurance world altogether it will almost definitely be less dollars out of your pocket to pay for the damages.

Think of it like this: If your insurance goes up only $50/month as a result of the accident (and that's probably a low estimate, given your age), that will affect you for 3 years. That's $1800 you'll end up paying for the accident.

However, getting insurance after being cut off by your current company will increase your rates even further, and the accident still ends up on your record for 3 years. So, unless you're /sure/ they'll never find out, best to take your lumps and drive safer from now on. I've been in a few minor accidents, and it /always/ sucks. The worst was when someone took the front end off my car after waving me on--the cop still said I was at fault. Hrmmm... twenty-something white guy vs. hot 18 year old asian girl... I /wonder/ who he'd find in favor of?

Ifyou hit a g35 coupe then more than likely you've damaged the trunk, the tail lights and the rear bumper.

That will run anywhere from 1500-1800 to repair.

If you dug in deeper at a faster pace then you probably damaged the 2 rear quarter panels and maybe even the side skirts.

That will run an extra 900-1100 if both sides are affected.

This is including labor/parts/paint for all OEM items.

If you hit a sedan then I don't know. The reason is that the coupe has almost nothing to protect the trunk and taillights from damage when the rear bumper gets damaged.

If just the bumper then you'll be looking at anywhere from 700-800 parts/paint/labor for just the rear bumper cover if they go to a top dollar body shop and use OEM parts.
