Just aft of the right rear speaker (on top) At least mine is. Reading all this makes me want to perform a little PM on mine, (clean out the dust, lube some things) but it works perfectly.BTW DDRUMMAN: just listened to Simon Phillips on There and Back, beautiful neuvo-Cobham clone work!

I think Rex still has his complete pre 1994 CD player available.

Well'

I just talked to Sony and they will start on it tomorrow. I sent it yesterday "next day air". Brian as you said, they picked up the shipping tab.

"BTW DDRUMMAN: just listened to Simon Phillips on There and Back, beautiful neuvo-Cobham clone work!"

I agree with you on the beautiful work part. As far as being a Cobham clone .....I don't know. I know that just like the rest of us, Simon was probably influenced by B.C., and the fact that he "rides" with his left on the left side of the kit might make it appear that way, but Simon definitely has his own voice.Although on "there and back" he was still very young.Good call though, squeefo. If you wanna hear some cool COBHAM work check out Mahavishnou Orchestra's "Birds of fire".

bbdaines wrote:Hello,

I bought my 92Q in an auction, it has the control unit, but no changer, where did they get mounted in the trunk ? I can't find the wiring.

Thanks, Blair

Pre-94's didn't come ... pre-wired (that doesn't sound right)???

If you have a 90-93 and there's is no CD Changer chances are there never was and thus no wiring. I have a unit out of a 91 Q that fell victim to a tree that ... fell on it (again donesn't sound right)??

It has the wiring, but the wires that run from the changer to the head unit seem to be missing one ends connections.

Just talked to one of the techs at Sony. He said that he saw the "cd err" thing and he ended up putting a brand new "board" and "microprocessor" whatever those things are.He said that he had it playing for 9 straight hours and so far so good.I'll keep you posted as soon as I get it. I should have it either tomorrow or Monday.

You're right,

I just got thru checking with fedex's tracking system, and it's supposed to be here by tomorrow at 7:00 pm.I'll take a nice long ride with cdr's and the "random" on and see what happens. I'll let the gang know how it went.

So I got it.

They replaced the servo board & chassis. Tested it for 2 days. They also replaced parts of constant irregular motion.

I removed the transit screws and installed it. No problem.I get in the car and drive around for a while, on random mode with 6 factory cds and 4 cdrs. Flawless. I get home and turn it off. Then I turn it back on and NOTHING....DEAD....PITCH BLACK

You know how, you can just press "cd" without turning on the power, and it still comes on. This was not doing anything, it wouldn't even illuminate. However the tape and radio played fine.

So I check the fuses thinking that the cd player harness has its own fuse. There were 2 audio fuses and both were good.

I started freaking out. I then wiggled the harness and it started making its characteristic sound and then came on and played fine.

I feel that the unit is repaired correctly this time. Has that thing with the harness ever happened to any of you?

Which harness? I've had to take the dash apart 2X to push the reset button, and cleaned the reader lens, that's all. I'm lucky I guess.

I bet your are talking of the one for the controller unit in the trunk that mounts externally on the case, and for me (perhaps in my ignorant bliss), the answer is no.

Kind of why I suggested you send the controller unit to Sony also.

"Kind of why I suggested you send the controller unit to Sony also"I recall you mentioning something about that. I looked on the thread......couldn't find it.You mean the head unit? That interface thing on top of the changer? What controller unit?

Just got back after being in the car for 4 1/2 hours with a half hour brake and it played without any problems. So we are cool!!!!

The only weird thing is that before I left, the same thing happened with the harness in the trunk that connects externally. It was dead and I had to get out and wiggle it.
