Got my car back from the mechanic:
Things that are obviously wrong with. They cant even run a diagnosis before i fix these things.
EGR valve is missing a vacuum
Needs Intake air temp sensor
The charcoal canister has a broken vacuum port.
Exhaust gasket to converter leaks

My question to you guys is, is it worth $700 to fix all these things, or is there any cheaper way to do it?
Is there any way that i can fix some less complicated stuff myself? I read that the EGR is best left alone, and to take it to a mechanic because its pretty hard to get to.

Most people delete a lot of that stuff. I would imagine it wouldn't be to hard to find somebody who will give there removed stuff to you. I think $700 is a little steep in my book. That's roughly 7 hours of labor for most shops going rates and it shouldn't take anywhere near that to fix. Also, odds are your diag issue is related to that stuff...

S13s don't have an intake air temp sender. The other items are pretty simple items to fix. Find the missing vac line for your EGR and replace, you can JB weld the charcoal canister's nipple back on if you have it, or just pick one up for cheap from a part out. Pick up a gasket for the exhaust from your local parts shop. Should only cost a few dollars. $700 is a bit much to do all that work since it can be done in an hour by an experienced mechanic.

What are they trying to diagnose that those minor issues prevent them from diagnosing? Nothing you listed seems to be major to the motor's operation in such a way that it would prevent diagnosing anything.

My 1990 S13 hatch had an air intake temp sensor. When I did a Cold Air Intake I wondered what is was.
