I went out with my Gf and my parents in my Sedan on Saturday night and on the way home on a stretch of highway I was driving next to a G37S coupe 5at and he wanted to race me.. So i followed suit I have 15% tint so i know he didn't know their was 4 people in the car.

I raced from about 2nd gear @ 3k rpm to the top of 4th and I didn't lose by much. My side mirror was about where his door handle was at 115mph from about 40miles per hour. And I was slowly gaining on him. I think by ~130 140 I would have been side by side!

Mind you the G37 had 1 person in the car... maybe 170lbs

I had myself 170lbs, my Gf 130lbs my mom 160lbs, my dad 250lbs (hes a fat a$$ lol)

give or take i had 500lbs more in the car than he did.

Is my sedan with my mods faster from a rolling start than the g37 coupe with a 5at? I know it is faster after the top of 3rd gear for sure but damn I was impressed by my G!

I think that had it just been me in the car I would have taken him... What do you guys think...

It was also cool that night (50's) so maybe the JWT really helped with it being cool out?

Anyone ever had this experience?

Don't give the G37 too much credit.

I dont know if the Auto transmission has the same final drive gearing in the differential as the G35 but the autos were 3.3 for auto and 3.5 for manual. Which will help you pull more in each gear.

BTW, the G37 has a 7AT.

The one G37 i have been in was 5AT and it was fairly quick, alot faster then the g coupe the girl used to own. I believe that with the mods you have you should be able to keep up???

I once had a G-37 in hot pursuit of me. I was amazed that he I could easily pull away from him with the mods on my car. I think his car was still new. Maybe if it had been broken in a little, it might have been a different story.

Why would you race with your girlfriend and parents in the Car? I would have let him go and know there are more important things in life than racing someone who is only putting his life at risk.

Plz no bashing... My entire family drives like we are at the track 24/7 (they were the ones that told me the guy wanted to race! :oy )

It was the 5at because I asked him what year and trans... he said 08 auto...

That is a 5at!

I was really impressed with my G

I went to Infiniti dealership to inquire on a G37 today... 7 speed auto, 6 speed manual trans.

I would not race with my rents in the car either, I get it bad enough from the GF, and she expects it

If you both lined up at the christmas tree, with only a driver in each car, I wonder how it would turn out?

No offense, but I think the G37 looks faster.

Looks arn't always everything... Plus I like the Sleeper look!

The 08 G37 coupes autos are 5speeds... I am 100% sure on that!

But I really need to make it out to the track to see I bet i would be in the high 13's especially if i put the 18's with 245 40 18's back on the car.

Go to the track and find out... I owe you a beer if you get into the 13's...

I don't think so, but you never know.

I noticed with my 245/45/18 at the track, I was able to shave off nearly a full second when compared with the 20's.

If you want to hit 13's, you'll need some 17" wheels/tires IMHO.

Give it a try and prove me wrong Also, it will keep some of these members happy if you keep it on the track Racing on the streets is bad mkay?

Tampa,

I was raised that way as well. My father is a speed demon. I got used to speed at an early age, and I thought it was normal, until I started racking up speeding tickets on an annual basis. At age 6 up to 11, I saw the speedometer hit 120 miles per hour routinely on inter-state trips. My dad would be considered today, a reckless driver, and yet I felt safe in his recklessness than the normalcy of many drivers today. It was normal for me to see such speeds as a kid. And my dad has only had one major accident in all of his driving career, and that came from a lug nut that was not torqued well, which caused othe lug nuts to losing and the wheel to fall of from the car at high speeds. Yes, an untorqued lug nut can cause a tire to fall off from its hub, while in motion.

As far as I am concerned, and in my opinoon, speed does not kill as much as it is touted, if a car is properly maintained. It is stupidity that kills. I have driven I-95 from Jacksonville to Fort Lauderdale, alone at 1 am in the morning, and you won't believe how fast those 18-wheelers fly on that road at night. Still, no accident. I wonder why?

sorry tampa.. we are not here to bash you.. it's just that your parents telling you to "go ahead" does not make it right... and to be honest, iv'e gone past " being impressed" with my g... newer cars are coming out that are better, way better than our "g"... i just live with it and not try to "race" a better car just so i can be happy with myself...

haha, IMO its gona be really hard for any 03-06 NA sedan to get into 13's unless you have some engine work done. Im very doubtful with my own car, i still need some more work done in order to get into 13's. hope tht helps, lol

One of the nice things about having a 53 and a 55 Plymouth as first cars. No lug nuts and what you do have will not loosen unless you are going backwards.

you have to remember that i have a 6mt and the rev up motor...

You started with 260hp and are working up on the hp. My motor started with 298hp then I added the Coupe mid pipe loss weight and picked up some power say 303 hp. also the 350z y pipe picked up about 5 more at peak 308hp and the JWT pop carger with z tube is good for at least 12.

I am most likely at 320-325hp and soon test pipes will put me over 330 hp.

I have to do less to get more!

It is really hard to back down from a challenge when you have racing in your veins. I had a Silverado SS mess with me the other day on the way to work. He was sorry he did....he got spanked.

As I have gotten older, I am much more likely to race when it is just me in the car. I would never be able to live with myself if I hurt somebody else, but if I died racing, I would die doing something I love and not rotting in a nursing home.

Not flaming or judging....

I saw a G37 at the track once. Did a slower 1/4 mile then mine. Only saw the one run though. It may have been their first time.

When you get older you'll find that it becomes easier to back down from a race with a punk and you'll also find that it is easier to not want to kill someone in another car.

Stock with a crappy launch I was 13.835. At what speed did you start the race because unless the '37 was a Sport model and in manual mode it has a tendency to lag a bit when accelerating from 20mph due to gearing.

I really don't race people on public roads. Maybe to 60 but thats it. Then I back down. IMO by 60 from a red light you've proved your point. You either won or lost.

I do drive like a d!ck though. People think I'm a little imbalanced. Specially the people that know me...

The way you are doing your guess-a-math isn't even close to accurate.

The pop charger is gonna give AT MOST 7HP with the Z-tube...and thats if you have it heat wrapped properly. The Mid-pipe and Y-pipe together might give you 5HP with some weight loss.

I bet you are lucky to be pushing an added 12 HP with those mods.

Also, there has been some speculation that most of the "gain" between the 287 HP and 300 HP Z or the 280/298 HP G was due to the new HP rating system.
