I am putting a larger turbo on my RB25DET this weekend. What I have been running is 12 psi with stock IC and no fuel managment at all. I am putting the following on.

56 Trim T04E compressor (65lbs/min flowrate)T3 .63 stage IV wheel (76 trim)Tial 38 mm wastegate (7 psi spring)20 X 8 X 3" FMIC.

I plan to keep the boost at 7 psi and watch my A/F with my wideband closly. I would also like to get to the dyno ASAP to make sure my A/F gauge is reading right. I will not beat on the car for I am sure it will be running close to maxing out the stock MAF sensor.

Will you be running the same size intake pipes or larger?

7PSI on a 2.5 inch intake tract is alot more air than 7 PSI on a 2 inch intake tract...I think its a good idea to lower the boost to 7 PSI to start with.

Should be one hell of a car once its done!!!

Well After working for the day we made some good progress. I got the tubo mounted and DP made up. I can now paint these items and spend tomarrow running the charge piping. That is going to be a major pain in the ***!! The oil lines are taken care of and the coolent lines have been removed and bypassed. So if all goes well I should be driving the car tomorrow night. If I run the wastegate right off the turbo I should only see about 5-6 PSI because of the intercooler pressure drop.

did you ever get your car dynoed before the changes? if you did i'd like to see the changes in power at the same boost levels. it should be noticeable

First driving impressions.......LAG LAG LAG!!! I can't beleave how much lag there is. The turbo starts to make boost around 4K and the wastegate opens at 4500-4800!! Thats too late for me. I ended up using the stock IC because I don't have enough bends for the FMIC. I didn't get a chance to close up the wastegate dump tube so it is really loud. Car is only running 5 psi and it feels pretty good once the boost kicks in. I am beging to think a 50 trim would have been a better turbo for this motor.

 you're scaring me with the lag! I just bought a stage 3 .63 57 trim t3/t04e!

Wow, that sucks....I guess you gotta keep the R's up once you get into boost....man...running 5PSI does it feel comperable to the stock turbo at 10PSI?

I would say it does feel like 10psi on stock turbo. But a tad slower. It keep pulling harder and harder towards redline. I am thinking of raising the redline so my shifts land in the powerband. I think there is an exhaust leak before the turbo so I am going to have to pull everything apart and try to fix it.

yeah, that would create alot more lag.... I am real curious how this will turn out, plus you still gotta come up & see me like we talked about!!!!

What better time than when you get this baby running and really kicking some ***.

Yes A road trip is on order here. How about an RB meet in the NE? I have a friend in MD that just got his running. I still didn't get my AC to work. Couldn't get the AC lines made by the shop I took it to. They only have standerd fittings (not metric)

But back on topic. I am still running though the stock SMIC so I think I will limit the boost to 8 PSI till I get the FMIC mounted. I need some really tight radius bends to do it. I also want to get my wastegate dump routed back into my exhaust it's too dam loud and it messes up the sweet sound of the RB when it opens.

How far are you letting the wastegate pipe travel before you reintroduce it into the exhaust?

I read somewhere from a pretty reliable source that it is best to do it about 12-18 inches from the turbo to stop turbulence from disrupting the flow out of the turbo....

Well I found a rather large exhuast leak before the turbo at the inlet flange. If I put my hand under there I can fell Air leaking out. Getting that sealed up will make a pretty big difference in spool time and throttle responce.I took the car out on th Hyw for the first time and I must say it feels really strong is 3rd and 4th gear for only running 5 psi! The higher I rev the harder it pulls. My wastegate will be plumed back into the exhaust a good 2 feet from the turbo outlet. I plan on putting it in at a 45 degree+ angle to keep cross flow to a min.

Perfect, that sounds like one hell of a car when you are done....I can't wait!

There is a guy in Jersey that I just finished an RB25 install into his 1990 hatch, and also another guy with an S13 RB20DET....I like the idea of a NE RB car meet, but I dont have an RB anymore....Am I still invited?

I vote for the exhaust leak as the spool and power diffrence problem. Fix it and the world is yours. On a side note my friends RB25 with the trust intake manifold and FMIC feels like it pulls good in the upper RPM range. from 3rd gear pull to 4th it seem to pull very good for a stock turbo car at 6psi. Were goin to see if it's enough for a rematcb with my old DSM on the fwy. Last time he was SR20 and he got owned lol the new vid should be a good race.

Well I got the exhaust leaks fixed. What a difference that made! The turbo was loose on the manifold. No wonder it laged soo much. I can't beleave it even mabe boost. It feels pretty good for just 5 psi. I plan to try 8 psi and maybe 10 if the A/F looks good.

I need some tight radius bends to make that work. Got any?

this is not really a relevant question but i noticed that Imissmyturbo said that the RB was a sweet sounding engine. I didnt doubt that but in my quest for RB20 knowledge i have heard several times that the engine, exhaust, turbo spool, blow off were very quiet. I was wondering if this was true. Maybe some sound clips or vids...

Quiet is sometimes a good thing. Why does it have to wake the neighbors to sound good?

So...how is spool now? I'm dying to know how it'll be with my turbo! Check it in 3rd and 4th gear :)

power band is great! shift from each gear near redline puts you at the right spot for each gear! Car goes through 3rd and 4th gears pretty quickly.

Whats so funny yellow4G63?

He's laughing because you were so excited you spelled every other word wrong..heh.

What psi by what rpm's do you get?

Naw just that you were so excited that you forgot to tighten the bolts on the turbo.

Don't dump your External or internal gate outside of the exhaust system and no exhaust leaks. The car should be quiet, Add a Cat and you won't hear a thing but the motor and BOV and a little exhaust note.

I would have thought an external wastegate dump would sound kinda cool....

http://www.protech-fabrication.com/andyvsralph.wmv WMV codec 9 required. The Yellow DSM is my old car. HKS External Gate racing my friends SR20 1st race was 10psi off the waste gate spring then the next was 15psi. I hated the sounds but I didn't have the money or time to route it back into the down pipe.
