Many modern BMWs also require the battery to be "mated" to the PCM by the dealer, otherwise there's the risk of overcharging the battery and disabling the electrical system, at which point a pyrotechnic safety device pops the connectors off of the battery terminal. The purpose of this is to save 1mpg with an alternator clutch that activates only as needed. I don't believe this applies to the current generation Z4 or 1-series, but I'm not entirely sure.

As for the injectors on the Q, if you're doing all of them at once then the whole plenum should come off, but if you're doing just one or two, especially near the front, then it's quick, if not entirely easy, to get in and out in less than an hour. I learned this shortcut right here on the forum.

I prefer Cadillac's approach to saving fuel with the new ATS and CTS, which is to reduce weight and use lighter high strength materials. Has the added bonus of making driving more fun.

Overall 7

It's got the old 1.8t... it's gutless. Besides basic maintenance, it hasn't really had any issues. meh

The idea of you working on a car just blows my mind. I've never seen you with a wrench in your hand. I've never seen you in "work clothes". It just absolutely makes my head asplode.

Anyway, carry on.

The Sweater Vest Mechanic -- coming to the Hallmark channel!

My preference for odd or complex cars (so why DON'T I own an Audi?) means I'm compelled to scour the web for solutions and dig in on my own.
