Heh. I work at Electric Boat (submarine manufacturer) and someone started a rumor at the office that our design facilities would be moving to Warwick, Rhode Island.

I quipped: "Well, I guess they can launch subs from there now."
Warwick got hit hard. Westerly was pretty bad too.

A lot of my family used to work at EB. Cool.

The death toll is up to 28. The river is currently 12 feet over flood stage. This is so awful. :frown:

A good friend's house in Old Hickory (suburb of Nashville) flooded last night. He got in today by boat, and it appears that the water "only" came in the house a few inches. He has flood insurance but only minimal coverage, so the house will get fixed, but there's no coverage for his stuff. His wife was loading up their car in the driveway that didn't have full coverage, but couldn't get out fast enough, so it's gone. They also have a Honda hybrid that was fubared sitting in the garage and two motorcycles. I think those had full coverage insurance. His Frontier was at the airport parking lot...

He's hoping to get in by Wednesday with his truck and get out what he can. I may drive out there with my Frontier and see if I can help him get as much out as possible before the mold and humidity destroy what didn't get wet. I don't know how long of a window he'll have to get stuff out before it's a lost cause.

Does anyone have any flood disaster recovery experience? I suspect I should take lots of bug spray for mosquitos... anything else? Will it be a lost cause trying to get electronics out that didn't get touched by water if they've been sitting in that much humidity for a few days?

Dude that really sucks.. I can't imagine having to rebuy everything I own. I dont' have super nice stuff but to replace it all at once would be super expensive.

Not necessarily. Put all of his stuff in a (preferably) small room with a dehumidifier and just let it run constantly until it doesn't pull any more moisture. This will save his stuff without having to disassemble everything and try to wipe the moisture out/off manually.

An aquarium broke, and now there's an odd ecosystem of fish swimming around the mall. Piranha roaming around, looking for food.

I find that hilarious. There are probably stingrays and a baby shark or two swimming around as well.

Another fine example of our power tripping "Law Enforcement".

Honestly, What law could they have broken? Is Wakeboarding illegal in Tennessee? :tisk:

I feel like coming to Nashville to give them some tourism dollars. I'm also inexplicably drawn to cities in distress. I had a great time in Detroit last month.
