Im just leaving my house in a good mood about to go see my girlfriend..Im driving and i notice this car all up on my *** , Im like ****ing ******* and continue to drive. About 5 minutes later Red and Blue lights..im like ****!@#! and pull over. The cop informs me my exhaust is illegal..I go on about how it is a bit loud and i plan on getting a silencer for it. She was really cool about it (i think she wanted me) and just gave me a fix-it ticket. Does anyone think a silencer will make it legal in southern california?

yea but im screwed if it doesnt. I have a apexi n1 single with the ka , because im planning on going turbo. Also what was ironic was that when im sitting there pulled over some rice rocket with a fart cannon exhaust blows by us..im like wtf!

I got pulled over in Long Beach for having a SuperTrapp which was far too loud, to the point where it setoff car alarms. All I had to do on the ticket was pay the fine. Of course, I figured that out after I went through the hassle of getting a new exhaust and worrying about getting it tested.

The modified exhaust law in CA is a *****. In theory, you can fight the ticket if the cop didn't put a dB meter on your exhaust before giving you the ticket. Odds are though, the judge will side with the cop and make you go to place to get it tested... of which there are only a few. But the having to measure the noise aspect of the law is the weakest part of it, because there are different acceptable dB levels depending on if you have a car, a truck... pre or post 1970-something, etc.

I think there are some hardcore penalities if you get pulled over a second time for the same exhaust. Look up the Vehicle Code for the section you got cited for, and check whether or not you need to provide proof of protection, and what that proof has to be. In my case, I only had to pay the fine. Yours might be different, depending on what city you got pulled over in, and what subsection of the code you got cited for.

The law that was just passed in CA is geared toward prevention. You have to take the car to a SMOG ONLY shop and have them run a Db test. If the noise is below the legal limit, they will give you a certificate stating this. If you are pulled over after that, then you and the cert. go to court. In this case, I would take the car and get it tested. If it's over the legal limit, pay your fix it ticket and put the silencer on. If it's below the limit, take the paperwork in and defend.

Man. Sucks for you guys. I live up here in Washington, have driven by SO many cops when my exhaust was warmed up (HKS Hiper, loud and deep when its warm) and I've NEVER been pulled over. Maybe I'm just lucky?

So now , I have to buy the silencer , take it to a smog shop , then present the certificate (if it passes) to a cop to sign it , then go to court..****.

Buy the silencer, just to be on the safe side, get the test, with and without. if it passes without, take the cert. to court, then go to ebay. If it has to have the silencer to pass, then you have to fix it, take the cert. to court, and now you have a legal exhaust, and paperwork to prove it. I know it seems like a pain, but in the end, you come out on top.

dont buy a removal tool! for the love of God! all you need is a pair of pliers and an adjustable wrench. you should be able to get a silencer from any shop that carries Apex'i stuff, hell, go back to the shop that you bought your exhaust and raise hell b/c you didnt get a silencer, they DO come in the box. my mom bought a car once and the dealer tried to pull the damn floor mats right out of it! i would just raise hell at a shop and youll get one for free. BTW if you put it on and pass, say it was on the whole time and the cop was just harassing you. But thats just my opinion, i could be wrong.

That's weird though, my N1 came with a silencer, I guess it only comes on some of them. I have yet to be pulled over for my exhaust, its much quieter and smoother than a lot of the fart cans most of ricers around here use, so I think cops just look at it and are like "ah.....it's not that loud". Well first thing you should check is that if the Apexi N1 states that it meets California statute. I know that the HKS hiper and greddy exhausts do.

I got pulled over for the same thing but with no fix a ticket. Im taking it to court. Since I got school/work Im gonna be postponing the court date till summer cause I can't make any of it. Hopefully by the time it comes he will forget about it. In addition, he said its too loud. Man what a jerk.

Also I found out that my HKS hiper is 50 state legal so that cop is gonna feel real stupid for pulling me over.

I have the Dual N1's and the silencers did not come with it... THe box was factory sealed and it wasn't in it. In anycase... My exhaust is pretty loud... and I have yet to be pulled over... I just chill when I see a cop or anything. I can control how loud my exhaust is when I want.. all depends on how much gas you give it. I have the damn laws here in Cali... it's a Biaach to do anything good to your car. but oo well, can't do nething about it. but just buy the silencer, get tested adn then take them out! then when you get pulled over.. show the cop the cert and tell them that you have been certified already... on the cert it won't say taht you were using the silencer... it will just say what exhaust you have (I hope) and the smog people wouldn't know if you have a silencer on or not... If I got a ticket for mine.. that's exactly what I would do.. but if I do get a ticket... I'm coming to you to borrow the silencer! =) I don't want to pay for 2!!! hhahah

my n1 duals didnt come with em either, the only times ive ever heard of it being included was a special deal with the store thats selling it as a combo package.

well one thing to keep in mind that when you turbo it the turbo should quiet down the exhaust a lil bit........where in cali by the way
